Lots of amazing prizes to be won in the daily draw from 1 to 24 December!

The 56 shops and businesses located in Cornavin Station in Geneva are celebrating the magic of Christmas with a huge Advent calendar installed right in the middle of the main hall.

From 1 to 24 December, around 160,000 daily commuters through the station will have the opportunity to take part in 24 daily draws, giving themselves the chance to win one of the many fantastic presents offered by the shops and displayed in each of the 24 Advent windows.

Some of the exciting prizes up for grabs include a Mondaine watch, a Brompton bike, and a camera, not to mention other great Christmas classics such as chocolates, perfume and, of course, an Advent crown!

clynk sufixe watch stand

Know-it-all Marketplace will showcase a luxurious new watch stand, called The One Night Stand, at its pop-up shop in Geneva from 27 November through to 23 December.

The One Night Stand

Designed and produced by Sufixe, the sleek-looking stand will make an ideal Christmas gift for anyone who prizes their precious timepiece, and is the first in what is expected to be a series of new products to be created by the recently launched R&D branch of c:lynk, a long-established design agency that works for multinational clients in and around Geneva.

According to c:lynk founder,  Basil Thuillard, The One Night Stand can serve either as a premium stand to keep at home for precious timepiece owners, or as a window display item not just for watches, but other items too such as jewelry.   The design can be fully customizable through choice of materials, finishings (paint, coatings, raw effect, etc), engravings, colors and more.

Katt Cullen and Lisa Cirieco-Ohlman

Despite all the last minute preparation going on for Know-it-all Marketplace, the new month-long pop-up shop opening in Geneva next Monday, Lisa Cirieco-Ohlman still managed to find time to head over to WRS this morning to talk to Katt Cullen on the Mid Morning Mix.

Click here and listen to what she had to say about her new temporary shop in the Planète Charmilles shopping center and the rigorous selection process that all the creative vendors had to go through to get their products included!

Whether you're looking for inexpensive but unique, handmade craft items to give to your female friends for Christmas, or more luxurious designer gifts to give to your husband, there is something for everybody in the shop, with prices ranging from just Fr. 2.- through to Fr. 300.-.

With every purchase made, you can be sure you will be supporting a local business...Lisa explained on the show that all 54 creators selected to display their wares in the shop come from the Lake Geneva region or nearby.

Marketplace 500

christmasmarkets2017

Christmas markets are a great place to go to get a flavor of the local customs and traditions of this region — and of course to buy unique, hand-crafted products to send as presents to your folks back home. Most of the markets provide food stalls offering local delicacies, including a welcome glass of mulled wine (otherwise known as vin chaud or glühwein). For the children, there are often many activities organized — and if they're lucky, Santa Claus may make a surprise visit!

In preparing our list for 2017, we have noticed that some of the bigger markets have extended their dates until the end of December, rather than closing just before Christmas... so if you still want to enjoy some Christmas spirit after 25 December, there's every chance you will find a market still open near you! We have also included some of the smaller private sales this year as well.

For the first time, Know-it-all Marketplace!

Know-it-all passport is hosting its own pop-up shop in Geneva from 27 November through to 22 December 2017. Located at Planète Charmilles, Know-it-all Marketplace will showcase the work of local creators who have a passion for all things creative! So if you are looking for an unusual, unique, handmade or locally designed gift to offer someone at Christmas, you will surely find something here. More details in the listings below!

Around 50 Christmas markets listed

Remember to click on the name of the event to see more information on each listing. Since some of the information has been sourced from other websites, we recommend that you verify the time and location of any events that interest you before you set out – just in case anything has changed.

Once again this year, we have created a  Pinterest Board for Christmas / End of Year Events 2017 to display some of the more colorful and artistic promotional flyers that we have received so far.  This will also include posters about concerts and other special events taking place this year. Follow our board to keep up-to-date with the latest events as we receive them!

And don't forget that you can see all our Christmas markets listed in one place on our Events Calendar by selecting the Events - Fairs/Markets/Sales category at the bottom of the calendar.

williams selecting tv options

New website highlights growing demand for internet-based services

If you like watching English TV and have lived in this region for a few years, chances are that you will have installed a satellite dish to watch your favorite TV programmes.

For many people with satellite, the Freesat service has been more than sufficient to allow them access to a wide selection of free channels, without the hassle of recurring monthly fees. For others, the lure of subscription services like Sky, with its various TV packages covering everything from sport and kids TV through to documentaries and films, is just too much to resist!

However, with the advent of internet TV, everything has changed.  Many people living in this region, especially those who are newly arrived, prefer the convenience of internet-based TV services, which don’t require the potentially costly installation and complicated set-up of satellite dishes.

Although internet TV may be more convenient, there are now so many options available that it’s not always obvious which service to opt for. To help you through this process, local English TV specialists, Williams Services, have set up a new website, https://englishtvservices.com, to help guide you through the main options available in this region.

Divided into 4 sections, the website proposes the following services to customers:
