Asked why she first decided to set up her own business, owner Tamara Birch told knowitall.ch, “I originally set up the business with my own line of clothing, reflecting my passion for the 60s and 70s. I had about 12 different articles but soon realized that with no fashion experience and limited sewing and pattern-making skills it was going to take me years to build up the Little Mooshoo brand on my own. So I began to buy other people’s products and brands, including well-known names such as Mim-Pi, FUB, Motoreta, L’Asticot and Sonny Angels, and the clothing store has taken off from there!”
She continued, “I am particularly attracted to items produced by fabulously creative people, who make everything by hand. Little Mooshoo seeks out the unique and the beautiful, always bearing in mind the practicality of each item with the hope that each item will be a favourite passed on from generation to generation. Ethical manufacturing is also a big criteria for me when selecting brands and you will see that many of the items we sell are Fair Trade and GOTs certified.”
In line with the ethical nature of her products, Tamara also donates a percentage of her sales to a school in Kenya, helping them to pay for school uniforms, teachers’ and cooks’ wages, as well as a growing orphanage attached to the school. Little Mooshoo is growing fast and Tamara is constantly adding new products to the website. She doesn’t carry huge amounts of sizes and stock so if you see something you like, you are advised to buy it while you can, and check the website regularly to see what has been added since you last visited.
