A new website has been launched offering huge discounts on local nightlife in the Geneva area.
Called BarDeal.ch, the website is the brainchild of young entrepreneur, Michael Berset, a former advertising account manager who has lived in the region all his life. Asked why he decided to set up his new company, Michael told knowitall.ch,
“When I was a student I used to love going out with friends to restaurants, bars and night clubs, but was always wondering where to go, and how on earth I was going to afford them, when they were always so expensive! I was determined to find a solution that would enable more youngsters take advantage of the nightlife in Geneva.”
He added, “I’ve always been interested in new trends within the internet, and studied the various models used by different companies offering discounts with “partner” organizations. From what I could see, these arrangements were not particularly attractive to the partner companies as the host company would demand huge commissions, which would make the deal unworkable in bars and restaurants. So I set about finding a new system that was both fair for partners and cheap for customers!”
BarDeal.ch is essentially a “good deal” website, dedicated to nightlife in Geneva (and Lausanne in a few months). Once a week, special offers are posted online, in limited quantities and for a limited time only. Typical examples include “half price on a bottle of champagne and tapas in a bar”, “50% off two pizzas in a restaurant,” and “buy one get one free on an event ticket”.
The way the offers work is very simple. If you see a special offer on the website that appeals to you, for example 50% off champagne and tapas, you just follow 4 easy steps:
1. Buy your secret code for a small amount (usually 5-6 francs)
2. Get your code instantly by email
3. Go to the place offering the deal (after checking the conditions of the deal) and say that you've got a BarDeal code
4. Have fun and pay only 50% of the price directly to the waiter!
Using this simple model, BarDeal.ch is able to make a small amount of money on each transaction, whilst taking no commission from the bars and restaurants. So the partner organizations are much more inclined to offer good deals, all to the benefit of customers!
BarDeal.ch has been online for a few weeks now and has run deals with the Café Le Calamar, the Bar L’Antidote, and Shahi Food, all of which are in Geneva.
