A new boutique, specializing in hand-crafted Indian products, has recently opened in Nyon.
Called RuVédique, the shop is the creation of local entrepreneur, Shareen Pfister, who is originally from Mumbai in India, but is married to a Swiss and currently lives in Vaud. Shareen sells a wide range of distinctive and elegant clothing for women, which blends influences from both the West and the East. She also markets an exclusive range of hand-made furnishings, that have been influenced by the traditions of India and include hand embroidery, vibrant prints and vivid colors.
Commenting on her product range, Shareen told knowitall.ch,
“When I launched RuVédique, my idea was to represent all the fantastic talent that comes out of India and which can now be found in Paris and London, but not yet in Switzerland. One of my principal suppliers, Anokhi, is a pioneer in the field of hand block printing and supplies to shops like East in the UK, and Simrane in Paris. Now they are supplying to us in Switzerland! RuVédique also gives me a chance to stay constantly in touch with India and even to make frequent trips back to source all the wonderful items one can see in my store!”
She continued, “In the home furnishings range I sell items like hand block printed table cloths, napkins, place mats and a selection of soft quilts in varying sizes that one could use in the garden or home. In ladies fashion I carry a range of kimonos, kaftans, tunics and scarves, as well as silk jackets, quilted coats and bags. I also sell hand-made recycled stationery products. I will shortly be introducing a line of jewelry called Honorine by Fanny Boucher, who is a French jewelry designer living in Jaipur, India, and who creates exquisite jewelry from gems found in Rajasthan. She sells to boutiques in Paris and has been recently featured in French Vogue.”
Environmental and fair trade issues are fundamental to RuVédique’s philosophy and Shareen ensures that all her products are hand-made using only natural fibres and dyes using ethical business practices. In her own small way, she tries to support the livelihood of the disadvantaged, but highly talented, artisans living in villages across India. Questioned about the durability of Indian hand-made products, one customer told us, “With two sons and 2 cats, I can confirm that the clothes there are easy to wear and come out perfectly in the wash!”
She added, “Shareen has a unique passion for style and quality in the design and production of clothing as is evidenced in her collection at the boutique. Additionally, the customer service I have received at her boutique is a testament to her enthusiasm, honesty and good taste. I am a proud owner of several kurtas and home accessories from her boutique.”
At her store in Nyon, Shareen has teamed up with Prisca Cavalli, of Cavalli Concept, to include more items of furniture for the home and garden, sourced from Italy and Spain. So customers can now enjoy “a complete shopping experience” when sourcing furniture and home furnishings from Shareen’s boutique.
