Using thin gold, silver or plated metal wire, Laura has produced a range of delicate, open pieces, which are light and easy to wear. In contrast to the Granny blankets and doilies that are often associated with crochet, Laura's jewelry has a unique contemporary feel to it, which is also very feminine. To add that extra special touch, many of the pieces are adorned with semi-precious gemstones such as amethyst, hematite, amazonite and rose quartz, with beautiful colors that will match almost anything you wear with them!

Asked how she came up with the idea for this unusual style of jewelry, Laura told knowitall.ch, “LolsDesigns started with a christening gown. I saw a pattern for a beautiful crochet dress which I just had to make for my daughter. I couldn’t crochet at all, but with a bit of perseverance and a few YouTube tutorials I managed to make my most complicated project yet. After that I began creating hats, scarves and blankets for friends and family – easy in comparison! I like to experiment and one day picked up some wire and began messing around with my crochet hook. I developed a new technique working with the wire and made my first pieces of jewelry for friends. They were a great success!”
She continued, “I have always been interested in Art and Design and nearly went to art college but at the age of 18, the urge to travel and explore other cultures was stronger so I decided on studying Russian and German at university. After leaving an exciting and fulfilling career in oil and gas to have my daughters, I wanted to channel my creative talents, so in 2013, while living in Moscow, I turned my hobby of wire crochet into a business. I design as I am working with the wire and like to explore and experiment as I go. When creating new designs I tend to have several pieces in progress at any one time. My work bench is incredibly messy!

Given the unusual versatility of her jewelry making technique, Laura (known as Lols to family and friends), has now created a wide range of jewelry items including pendants, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Since no machinery is involved, she builds an intimate relationship with each piece she creates, and knows every stitch and loop as she progresses. Given the time it takes to hand crochet each product, no two pieces are ever the same. Since much of her work is made to order, she has a strong bond with her clients, and always keeps their wishes in mind when designing and producing her work.
Laura told us, “When making my jewelry I keep creative, dynamic women in mind, who appreciate unique design and handmade artisanal jewelry that hasn’t been mass produced. As I now live in Geneva, many of my customers are in Switzerland, but I also have clients in Russia where I spent many years, across the rest of Europe and in the USA. One of the key benefits of my jewelry is that it is very light, so it can be posted easily and cheaply. All items are packaged in distinctive handmade origami envelopes, also made by me!”
