Inspired by her success in the recent photo competition held on knowitall.ch, local photographer, Michelle Petersen, has just launched a new photographic business.
Called Michelle Petersen Photography, the new business will be based in the “La Cote” region, and will focus on portrait photography for babies, children and their families.
Michelle told knowitall.ch, “I am so excited about my new business and am enjoying the process of making great images and memories for my clients. I feel so privileged to do something I love and to be able to reconcile a career with my role as a mother.”
Although Michelle has had a love of pictures for as long as she can remember, she first started taking photographs seriously when her husband gave her a digital camera one Christmas. Having read the instruction manual from cover to cover numerous times, in order to achieve the “perfect” picture, she then enrolled on a long-distance, professional photography diploma course with the New York Institute of Photography – and hasn’t looked back since!
As she mastered new techniques and perfected the ideal portrait photograph, she found friends and acquaintances were approaching her more and more frequently to take photos of their children and families.
Michelle told us, “After while, I soon gained the confidence to enter a couple of photography contests. When I won first prize to have my photo printed in the Family section of the new Know-it-all passport edition, I decided it was time to turn my passion into a business!”
Michelle offers a number of packages on her website, with prices ranging from 375.- to 700.-, depending on the quantity of digital files included in the package. For each package, Michelle invests a considerable amount of time before and during the shoot, working closely with clients, to produce the perfect selection of shots for them.
She explained, “Before the shoot, I will spend time talking to clients on the phone to find a location that will best suit who they are and the images they wish to capture. I am happy to take pictures in houses or gardens, or meet in a park or urban setting – in fact anywhere that reflects the mood that the client wishes to create.”
A typical shoot will last anywhere between one and two hours, depending on how quickly the client’s children warm up to the camera or get fed up with it. It will not be rushed and time will be allowed for children to become comfortable and for any breaks needed. Michelle will provide direction as to the flow of the shoot, so clients can relax and enjoy being with their family. She will suggest some "posed" shots, but will also give time for clients and their children to play and be themselves, allowing for genuine expressions and unique personalities to shine through.
After the shoot, Michelle will also spend time with the images in her digital darkroom, polishing and formatting them to ensure that her clients end up with beautiful prints or wall art.
