Special discount for knowitall.ch readers on all orders before end 2014!
If you’re looking for something a little bit different to furnish your home, then you should take a look at some of the soft interior furnishings created by Susan Inglis, Creative Designer at The Purple Thistle.
Using Scottish fabrics such as Harris Tweed, mixed with a variety of different cottons, Susan has produced a range of beautifully hand-crafted products for the home with a decidedly Scottish twist to them. In addition to classic cushions decorated with well-known Scottish icons such as Scottie dogs and Highland cows, she supplies wedding favors, personal gifts and trendy accessories, also adorned with Scottish emblems such as thistles and stags, etc.
Asked where the inspiration for her designs comes from, Susan told knowitall.ch, “I have always had an entrepreneurial and creative side (taken from my Grandma Winnie), even from when I was a young child growing up in the countryside of my beautiful home in the West Coast of Scotland. The Purple Thistle was created from my passion for interiors, colours, creating and making. My business started in Glasgow in 2011 where I attended pop-up-shops in the West End of Glasgow, Edinburgh, and St Andrews.”
She continued “I soon built up a nice following and repeat custom, which is always nice because I do like a blether (Scottish word for a chat) and I love hearing feedback from my customers! Now living in Switzerland I take inspiration from the stunning scenery, the community spirit and the people’s love for artisanal products that are a little different!”
It is clear to see the Scottish influence behind many of the products sold on Susan’s website, www.purplethistle.co.uk. These include a Harris Tweed notebook, a Scottish inspired wedding gift including a tweed heart and Scottish wedding blessing, tweed/sheep fridge magnets, a tartan infinity scarf and a tweed/leather bookmark.
Since most of Susan’s cushions are custom-made for clients, you won’t find many examples of these on her website for sale. However you will see plenty of photos on her Facebook page of cushions she has made for former clients, as well as other items not featured on her website, such as Harris Tweed ipad covers and purses! If you’re looking for an individual piece for the home or an original gift for a friend, and can't find it on Susan's website, just tell her what you’re looking for and ask her to create something special for you! Susan is more than happy to design and create personalized items, "made-to-measure" for her clients.
