The fourteenth edition of the biennial literary anthology of the English-speaking Geneva Writers’ Group will be launched in the Common Room (next to the parking lot) at Webster University on Saturday, September 16, 2017. With poetry and prose from more than 40 writers representing 15 countries, this volume celebrates the creative, international community of 250 writers established in 1993 by Susan M. Tiberghien with a few friends. The launch includes an informal reception at 5 p.m. with selected readings. All are welcome.
This year, the theme of “fragile states” was selected to inspire writing by people who have created lives in places far from their “roots.” This reality was the impetus for the title Offshoots that was inspired by the vigorous shoots of plane trees sprouting each spring along the lakeside quays of Geneva.
“Our writers bring a remarkable range of experience when it comes to the challenge of adaptation,” said this edition’s American editor-in chief, Patti M. Marxsen. “We hoped the theme would lead to some fascinating perspectives and we were not disappointed!”
For the first time, the publication includes a Founder’s Invitation feature, which Susan Tiberghien extended to poet Wallis Wilde-Menozzi, as well as an Editor’s Choice designation in each of three genres: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Photographs expressing the “fragility of water” by British photographer Alistair Scott enliven the book designed by Sue Niewiarowski.
