Recently launched novel, Death in Grondère has been getting a good reception in Verbier, the ski resort on which it is largely (but very loosely) based. The author, Kathryn Adams, like many of the characters in her book, came to Switzerland to ski and decided to stay. Originally from the north of England, she studied French in London and took a detour through the City before losing her heart to the mountains. Death in Grondère is her first work of fiction; with a sequel already in the pipeline.

Kathryn tells knowitall.ch how it the story came about, "I have wanted to write this book for a long time. Like many writers, I’m a terrible eavesdropper and so, since I came to Switzerland almost 20 years ago, I have been observing life and the people here. I have wanted to tackle the novel format for a long time and it seemed right for my first full-length work to showcase my adoptive country. One of my main objectives was to show a different side to life in a ski resort. It has such a snobby image, but the Verbier I know is a melting pot of down-to-earth, dynamic personalities of all nationalities, ages and backgrounds connected by a love of winter sports, nature, and these very special hills that they have chosen to call ‘home’.

"This book is a light, gentle holiday read, with a decent plot and entertaining characters but it was also important to me to include a lot of description about the mountains and Swiss culture: the most difficult part of the whole writing process was striking a balance between the two. My reviewers, quite rightly, thought I had overdone the scene-setting and I went through two tough re-writes. In the end, however, I felt if I cut any more it was no longer my book. Eventually, and on advice from other writers, I took the plunge and stayed true to my original concept despite being aware that some sections may slow down the ‘action’. Some readers have clearly felt that but, overall, most seem to have understood what I was trying to achieve and I have been really thrilled by their reactions.

With a new look, the Pully art Museum looks at the work of Jaques Berger (1902-1977). An elegant, subtle character with a singular style, almost unclassifiable, the painter and lithographer Vaudois is known for both the international avant-garde scene as much as local.

After beginnings influenced by the abstract and purist movements in 1920s, Berger turned to a less abstract model with more order, before returning to abstraction as early as the end of the 1950s. In search of new expressive means, the artist continued for into his 70s in the lithographic adventure, which solidified his reputation.

The exhibition is an opportunity to discover the path of a demanding painter who has been able to forge a path avoiding academicism. Through paintings, drawings, and lithographs, the spectator discovers that the artist's profession is above all to do with color, the relationship between masses, volumes and contrasts. The usual categories fade, the painting is purified, the eye opens to a set of shapes and lines, to a space of meditation.

A local mother, Marine Sinclair, saw a need for a children's museum in the Geneva area. With the grand opening looming, knowitall.ch thought an article would drum up just the right amount of interest.

Accessible for children as young as age 3, this new museum with an unprecedented concept in the region, will offer two exhibition spaces dedicated to scientific and digital fields, as well as environmental awareness.
Their motto? Forbidden not to touch!

A museum to make the world of science accessible to all
The Exploracentre intends to meet the expectations of the inhabitants of the region by offering the first museum of playful and interactive learning dedicated to children. The idea is to propose a new offer to the Lake Geneva area of creative, innovative, and technical activities for the whole family, and thus easily relay scientific, digital, and environmental concepts.

A new exhibition and workshop space in the heart of Geneva
After several months of preparation and work, the Exploracentre is preparing to receive the explorers of all ages in the heart of the Bains neighborhood in Geneva. With a space of more than 400m2 spread over two floors, the museum offers about thirty interactive experiments. While the first level hosts a renewed thematic exhibition each year, the second offers independent evolving experiments each month. In addition, three rooms are dedicated to workshops, to school groups, to leisure centers, and to the organization of birthday parties.
