Coerver Coaching Geneva – La Côte is offering knowitall.ch readers the chance to win a free place for their child on one of their popular football courses, worth Fr. 100.-!
If you haven’t heard of Coerver Coaching before, this is a global football coaching program that includes football camps and courses and which has been running for over 30 years. The method is endorsed by top clubs, coaches, and federations across the world – notably World Cup winners Vicente Del Bosque and Jurgen Klinsmann, and 11x Champions League winners, Real Madrid.
The method is unique in football coaching, with emphasis placed on players maximizing their touches of the ball. Sessions usually start with a ball mastery session, where players learn and progress at their own pace, practicing skills and techniques taught by the coaches. At camps, children benefit from watching the skills they have learnt throughout the day being performed on video by top players. The Coerver pyramid shows the development of players throughout the program and forms the basis of every training session. There are also adapted player pyramids for younger players and goalkeeping development.
In the Geneva – La Côte region, Head Coach and Regional Director Greg Whibley has been a Coerver coach for more than three years. He has experience coaching with FC Sion academy, and currently is a coach with the Footeco programme run by Geneva-Servette FC. He set up the Geneva-La Côte branch of Coerver Coaching after being inspired by the program, and deciding there was an opportunity for a more technical method of coaching in the region.
Greg has been playing football all his life, trained in top academies in the UK and recently joined FC Versoix first team after a stint playing semi-professional football with US Terre Sainte. He has been a qualified football coach for 10 years. Aside from coaching with Coerver, he is the FC Versoix Girls coordinator, where over 120 girls of all ages practice twice per week with the club, learning from the Coerver method.
Greg told knowitall.ch, “The Coerver method is exactly how I thought football should be coached. I was shocked at the improvement in the ability of the kids over my first week with Coerver in Crans-Montana and felt there was a demand for this revolutionary method here.”
Greg’s Coerver programs aim to develop confident and creative players in a fun and safe environment. His coaches are passionate about football, coaching and developing kids ability, and improving their own coaching. The Coerver method helps players to improve their decision-making; mistakes are not seen as a problem but a natural part of their development where players learn from their own mistakes more than they do from knowledgeable coaches.
Coerver Coaching Geneva – La Côte ran its first camp in August 2014 with 12 girls and has since grown to provide popular summer camps at Versoix and sizeable First Skills (4-6) and Skill Development (7-12) programs on Wednesday afternoons at Versoix Sports Center. The organization has also launched a Saturday football program (7-10) where the emphasis is on improving technique in game situations with small-sided games, and a Performance Academy (11-14) for club level players with more complex skills and more intense sessions.
Greg continued, “We are primarily trying to target keen footballers aged 4 – 14. We welcome players who are new to the game and club players seeking to take their game to the next level. We currently operate in the Versoix area and are hoping to attract players for our Outdoor Winter sessions, and our Futsal camp at the Campus des Nations in Geneva over the February half-term holidays.
To encourage more young kids to attend their courses, Greg is running a competition to win a place on one of his outdoor Winter programmes at Versoix Sports Center; registering a place normally costs 100 chf and the courses are open to kids aged 7 – 14. To enter the competition, ask your child to perform the best football skill they can; be it an “around the world”, a “rainbow flick” or “step over”. Kids can film themselves doing the trick and send it to Greg on Facebook (Coerver Coaching Geneva-La Cote), Instagram (Coerver Lake Geneva) or by email (This email address is being protected from spambots. The competition closes at midnight on 8 January 2017. The winner will be contacted by email before 10 January 2017. Good luck!
