The American International Women’s Club of Geneva has just published a new guide to skiing in the region.
Called “Think Ski” the new 181-page guidebook tells you all you need to know about downhill and cross country skiing at 21 of the most popular local resorts, some of them on our doorstep and others no more than a few hours' drive away.
Written and beautifully illustrated by local author, Eleanor Ormiston, the book is packed with all kinds of tips to ensure everyone, skiers and non-skiers alike, can make the most of their outings to the local ski slopes.
In France, these include ski stations in the Jura, resorts in the Mont Blanc region such as Megève, Combloux and Chamonix, and resorts in the Portes du Soleil and Avaris regions. Several well-known ski areas in Switzerland are also included.
To mark the 22nd Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, and running alongside the The Russian Avant - Garde and Sport exhibition, The Olympic Museum is Lausanne is hosting a special exhibition devoted entirely to the Sochi Games.
The setting for the exhibition is inspired by Russia and the visual identity of the Sochi Games. It presents many aspects of the 22nd Olympic Winter Games - from competition venues, the torch relay, emblematic objects and sports which are new to these Games. Sochi Live ! also offers visitors an opportunity to explore how the visual identity of these Games was created, drawing inspiration from Russian arts and crafts.
For the third year running, the International Ski Federation (FIS) is organizing World Snow Day, a unique occasion in which children are encouraged to enjoy and explore the snow, whilst learning about the environment, the health benefits of snow activities, and safety on and off the snow.
Hundreds of ski resorts around the world will take part in the event, some offering ski equipment for free, as well as lift passes and other related activities, such as group ski and snowboarding lessons.
Verbier, Villars, Morgins, Les Diablerets, and Anzère are just a few of the local Swiss stations that will be getting involved in this year’s event, whilst in France you can expect to find activities in popular resorts such as Chamonix and Megève.
Take advantage of free entry to the museum until 23 January, 2014
The Olympic Museum in Lausanne will reopen its doors to the public on Saturday 21 December 2013, after 23 months of work. The new Museum, which has been entirely revamped, will integrate the latest technological innovations and a new, themed museographic approach. A unique experience will be on offer to visitors: an invitation to dive into the history, legacy, dreams, challenges and values that have contributed to making the Olympic Movement what it is today. The public can visit The Museum free of charge until 23 January, 2014.
The new Museum
The extension and architectural renovation of The Olympic Museum, which were entrusted to Lausanne architects, Brauen & Wälchli, have allowed the museum to create new exhibition areas. The design, creation and installation of the visitors’ route are the work of a multidisciplinary team, bringing together the museographic experience and talent of several renowned international companies.
Tickets now available for this unique “open air” derby, to be staged at the Stade de Genève on 11 January, 2014
Tickets are now on sale for the Winter Classic 2014 - a unique occasion in the world of ice hockey in which players from the Genève-Servette Hockey Club and the Lausanne Hockey Club will come head to head in a classic derby, only the second of its kind to be staged in an open air football arena in Switzerland.
To encourage a wider audience for this match – and hopefully convert more supporters to this increasingly popular sport in Switzerland – there will be a special pre-match show, designed to draw the crowds. The evening program will commence with a concert by the internationally-acclaimed local Geneva band, Stevans, who will also return at various points throughout the evening between periods.
