puplinge2

A new art club has been launched in the region, that will allow both adults and children to explore and discover their individual creativity.

Set up by former professional artist, Victoria James, the Art Club Puplinge helps students experiment with different materials and techniques that will enable them to express, in the best way possible, what they wish to create.   Describing the process to knowitall.ch, Victorial told us,

“At my art club, work is never “evaluated” in the formal sense, so that whatever is produced remains as authentic and personally expressive to each individual, and is uninfluenced by the opinions of others. Art Club Puplinge is a place where adults and children come together and have a “balancing effect” on each other, creating autonomously, using the space and materials provided, through the various themes suggested (such as different techniques, perspectives, subjects, colours and use of materials). When the weather permits it, we also get out into the neighbouring countryside and get inspired by nature. Sometimes topics may be suggested which may need research and thinking outside of Art Club time (such as history about a topic, artist, piece of writing, music or movement…)”

Two weeks ago we went to Rendez-Vous Bundesplatz, a spectacular light, music and story show, that was projected onto the Parliament Building at the Bundesplatz in Bern. It was a beautiful Saturday evening. We arrived about 40 minutes before the 7pm show and the crowd was just starting. At the last minutes the area got really busy, but not really packed.

The show started Swiss time – on time at 7pm. It was a WOW! Simply amazing and from our spot we could enjoy it easily. I’m a petite (1.54m), but it wasn’t a problem, although in the the photos you’ll see silhouettes of heads :) I saw that many families brought stepping stools for their children to stand on. My 5-yo daughter stood on her brother’s stroller and I carried my 2-yo with an Ergo.

I especially loved how they colored the statues’ clothes in red!

As quoted from here, the show was a “fictional journey through Swiss myths and legends, all bundled into an entertaining story“. I understand basic German, but as the story was in CH German, I was completely lost. But honestly we still enjoyed it very much. And it wasn’t only for us. Caroline, a friend and follower of Lausanne Mom wrote this after seeing the show last week:

"Thanks so much for posting this. We went and even though the kids and I don’t understand (Swiss) German, it was AWESOME!"

I highly recommend you to squeeze in a visit to Bern until 1st Dec to catch the show. Bern by itself is a very charming city. We have gotten to know it very well as a very close friend lives there and we spent many of our staycations there. You can combine it for example with a visit to the Sensorium just outside Bern, or if you go this week you can still catch the Qin exhibition. During our last trip to Bern we also went to the Museum of Telecommunication and loved it (post about it coming soon).

And finally, a mommy tip: don’t forget to bring your little ones to the restroom before heading to the show. FYI, the show last around 25 minutes.

“Rendez-vous Bundesplatz” at Parliament Square, Bern: from October 18 to December 1, 2013 (except during the Onion Market on November 24 and 25). Two presentations are held each evening: at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. More info.

If you have children, the chances are that you have heard about BG World, or at least Baby Gym, the name under which the organization first operated when it was launched by Swiss mompreneur, Sandrine Nagy, in 2004. Having earned its reputation as one of the most popular and imaginative centers for child-related activities in the Geneva region, BG World is now undergoing a major transformation, with lots of new activities designed to appeal to older children as well.

To find out more, just head on down to the ground floor of the shopping center at La Praille and see for yourself the wide-ranging facilities that are now in place for young children up to the age of 12 years old.  Whilst the staff remain unchanged – unwaveringly professional and welcoming at all times – there are a number of new attractions including both a dedicated gym hall and purpose-built dance room, ideal for hosting a wide variety of classes.  The games and snack rooms, perfect for holding children’s parties, have also been jazzed up and redecorated to match the new, modern look from BG World!

A ball pool in the reception area, so that kids can have fun whilst they wait for their classes, is just one of many special touches that BG World has made to their premises in La Praille to ensure the continued happiness of their young clients!

As the capacity for underground visits is limited, access to the underground facilities will be by reservation only, and tickets must be obtained from the CERN Open Days website. For safety reasons, children aged 12 or under will not be admitted to the underground sites. Each person will be able to reserve up to four tickets, which will be valid for a specific day and time-slot. The tickets, which are free of charge, will be made available on the site progressively over a four-week period.

CERN operates state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation, particle accelerators and detectors, in the pursuit of fundamental knowledge about matter and the Universe. Its largest accelerator, the LHC, is an underground ring measuring 27 kilometers in circumference that smashes tiny particles into each other. Their collisions are analyzed by several detectors, including in particular four huge machines measuring tens of meters in height and length, packed with millions of sensors. The LHC is fed by a chain of accelerators, the last of which is the Super Proton Synchrotron, housed in an underground tunnel measuring 7 kilometers in circumference.

Having successfully served the local community for 8 years with its popular indoor entertainment park in Geneva, Yatouland has come up with a new concept that will ensure your children have even more fun than before, in a safer and more secure environment.

Tickets at the newly decorated park in Vernier will now be available through advanced group reservations only so that children can enjoy the area with their friends, safe in the knowledge that entry will be limited to private parties only.

As before, bouncy castles, a multi-level adventure labyrinth, video games and other surprises will be available in an enclosed area measuring 1200m2.  Within the park each party will also have its own customized private zone in which guests can lounge around and enjoy unlimited soft drinks provided by Yatouland.  By setting a limit of 6 parties, with up to 20 children aged between 1 and 10 years old, Yatouland believes children will enjoy a more personal birthday experience, with all the necessary ingredients to make their party a truly memorable experience.
