Don’t miss out on a wonderful opportunity for your kids to have endless free fun in the snow this weekend!  On 22 January, hundreds of ski resorts around the world will take part in World Snow Day, a new event launched by the International Ski Federation (FIS) as part of its “Bring Children to the Snow” campaign introduced in 2007.

According to FIS President, Gian Franco Kasper, World Snow Day will be a day where "children can come together with their families, encouraged to enjoy and explore the snow, whilst learning about the environment, the health benefits of snow activities and safety on and off the snow."  It is hoped that World Snow Day will deliver an experience that children will cherish for a life time and would like to re-live each year.

Numerous ski resorts throughout Switzerland are taking part in the event, many offering ski equipment for free, as well as lift passes and other related activities such as group ski and snowboarding lessons.

In Verbier, all kids 16 and under will be able to obtain their ski pass for free, and the Swiss Ski School of Verbier will be organizing a giant slalom in which every sliding device is welcome!

In Villars, beginner skiers will also be offered free ski passes along with free ski rental, and will have the opportunity to sign up for a beginners group lesson for skiing or snowboarding, between 10am and 12pm.  Since thousands of young skiers will be heading to the slopes you are advised to register early by calling + 41 24 495 22 10, or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. In addition to free ski passes, equipment and group lessons, visitors to Morgins will have the opportunity to watch a special ice sculptor show by a professional sculptor.  Children and adults will also be able to enter a snow sculpting competition with awards being offered for the best sculpture.

Food, beverages, entertainers and music will play a big part in the day at Anzère, where the festival will take place at the cable car’s arrival station called “Le Pas de Maimbré”. With free group ski and snowboard lessons being offered for children, along with “a family fun race” and “snowball flight”, the day is sure to be a huge success with children and adults alike. At the end of the day children will receive a diploma and winners will be given a prize.  As part of the day’s goal to improve safety on the slopes, Anzère will also be running an Avalanche course.
