Lisa's flower mandala cushions will be on sale this weekend as well as other items
With all the holiday markets leading up to Christmas, it is hard to know which one to attend. You will surely find what you are looking for at any of them ranging from decorative items, handmade greeting cards, jams, cookies, clothing, knitted or crocheted items, stained glass, and candles. Have a look at our Events Calendar to see other markets.
Lisa Cirieco-Ohlman, author of Know-it-all passport®, and teacher of all creative things at Coffee and Creations, will be participating in only one market this year. It will be the Marché de Noël de Bellevue, just outside of Geneva.
One day, she decided to collect flowers from her garden (above) and arrange them in a circular pattern known as a mandala. The art of mandala making is quite therapeutic and even though the idea is to repeat the pattern, the imperfections you get with real flowers, the asymmetry and negative spaces was a balancing act with a ton of rewards. One of her favorite pieces is with the perfumed rose from her garden (top photo right and below), Vanille Fraise, that she carefully pulled apart leaving one petal still attached to the middle stem. The results were stunning.

Photos were taken directly above the arrangement, making sure the shadows and light were balanced, she designed fabric and either made the art into cushions or dresses, blankets and scarfs, and even onto reusable shopping bags (below).
