Guest Blogs

Knowitall.ch often invites local experts in their field to contribute to their own blogs on our site. This means not only you will benefit from the useful recommendations that we make on our News pages, but you can also profit from some of the great advice and tips that these experts have to make on their favorite subjects. Whilst each of these bloggers has been recommended to us at some point during the evolution of Know-it-all passport and  knowitall.ch, obviously we are not able to test out all the suggestions they make on their blogs, nor do we necessarily agree with all their opinions.  So if you do find one of their tips useful (or not!), do let us know!

To make these blogs more accessible to you, we have now decided to group them altogether in one section, entitled Guest Blogs, accessible from our main menu bar.  We will also post the most recent blogs on the home page of our site in the right hand column.

We are still building up this area of the site, and are looking for bloggers in a number of sections, including Your Home, Travel, and Leisure, so if you feel you have a useful contribution to make in either of these areas, and have the time to submit blog entries approximately every month, then please get in touch!

Zermatt Unplugged is one of my favourite music festivals – don’t miss it! It runs from 8-12 April in the beautiful town of Zermatt under the Matterhorn in Valais. The 2014 line up includes Aloe Blacc, Katie Melua, and Jamie Cullum ,to mention just a few of the big names. There are also great up and coming Swiss artists featured. I’d say make a weekend of it – book a hotel, get in some spring skiing or hiking lower down in the valley, enjoy a soak in the spa, and then hit the festival in the evening. Here are some tips for the savvy festival-goer.

I was reflecting on my next blog so was rather surprised and delighted when an owner of a bike shop in Rolle gave me the theme without even knowing it! I had taken it upon myself to renovate my eldest's daughter's bike from blue to bright pink, for her younger sister. All went well with the renovation (the spray paint on the wheels being part of the planned look of course!) aside from I couldn't get the seat down.

I took the bike and children into the bike shop in Rolle and the owner couldn't have been more helpful - fixed the seat to the right height, fixed the bell, adjusted the brakes, all for next to nothing. In fact, he then threw in some teaching to my 5 year old, as she tried to ride the bike in the shop: "riding a bike is like life, you have to keep moving".. .

Little did he know that his advice also gave me the inspiration for my next blog.

FOOD: NOURISH YOUR BODY IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY
In addition to working on the spiritual and emotional side of PMS and honoring your body’s needs at this time, eating the right foods is a powerful ways to turn PMS around.

You don’t need to eat a perfect diet - try instead to aim for at least 80% healthy foods and fully enjoy the 20% of less healthy foods you allow yourself. This is a more realistic way of making sustainable change.

With examinations looming on the horizon, many students are looking ahead, considering the next stage in their academic life. Many of the international curricula offered in Swiss private schools provide an element of choice with regard to subject combinations  and therein lies the difficulty. If you’re agonising over which course to choose, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Choose subjects you enjoy
Maybe your Dad is an incredible mathematician whilst mum’s a talented biologist. You want to keep them both happy,but what you really enjoy is history and languages. In that case, go for it! For the next two years, you‘ll be devoting a lot of energy and possibly a few sleepless nights to the subjects you choose, so the least you should do is like them! Choosing subjects to please others risks leaving you frustrated, unhappy and quite simply, out of your depth. Similarly, don’t choose a subject just because your best friend has chosen it !

Wow, I didn’t expect that one. LinkedIn has made a few changes recently that annoyed many of us. I’m referring to the disappearance of the skills directory and the activity feed on our profiles for example. And in fact this annoyance many users immediately was reflected in LinkedIn’s stock price: huge drop in recent months.

But this might change again with this recent addition of publishing options for everyone.

What is the ‘LinkedIn Publishing’ Platform?
If you have subscribed to receive updates from a bunch of influencers, you are already experiencing the publishing options first hand. You have subscribed to receive posts from these influencers, without being connected with them. Well, LinkedIn is now giving the opportunity to all of us to publish posts and have people subscribe to regular updates from us.
