If you are a personal or business coach, you might be aware that your competition is slowly but surely getting the idea of Social Media and while you are still hesitating, they are building their “tribe”, engaging with their potential clients as we speak.

So I thought I’d write a post for you to encourage you and take that first step into the world of Social Media.

Facebook: Some coaches decide to use their personal profile on Facebook also for their business. I recommend you don’t. I recommend you get a professional page, or “Fanpage”. You can do much more with a page, in terms of marketing and you will also not have to worry about privacy issues. You only post business info, or personal info that you want to share with your business contacts. Go claim your page right now !If you have already started using your personal profile for business, just be very careful with what you are posting.

LinkedIn: LinkedIn is probably the first place potential clients will go to find out more about you (after your website maybe). They want to find out what kind of background you have, how much experience and if you have any good references. So it’s very important that your LinkedIn profile is 100% completed, contains a professional looking photo and it would be great to have at least 5 recommendations from former clients. If you are a perfectionist and want the perfectly optimized LinkedIn profile, may I recommend my LinkedIn for B2B e-book?

Youtube: For those of you who do a lot of public speaking, group trainings and other events, Youtube might be a good option to show potential clients who you are and how you work. Have someone come in and film a few segments of your next event. Make sure the videos are not longer than 3 minutes. Then upload them to your Youtube channel and promote them on your Facebook page. Or write a blog post and embed the video!

Coaching Events: When you organize your next public coaching course, retreat or other event, don’t forget to use Social Media to promote it. Designing and printing a flyer is costly and not always very efficient. If you have spent some time building your tribe on Social Media, you will see much better results spreading the word about your event online. You can use LinkedIn Events, Facebook Events and any other site that promotes events in your region. Just google “Event calendars + the name of your city” and I’m sure you will find at least three sites.

Blog: Even though a blog is not really considered Social Media, it is part of the Online Marketing package. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have a blog for your coaching business. A blog not only creates traffic to your website, it also positions you as an expert in your field. Your audience can subscribe to your blog posts and receive updates every time you post something.

When I work with coaches, be it Business or Life Coaches, first thing we do together is analyze their target audience. Every coach has a different kind of niche, and therefore a different target audience. But those 5 tips above pretty much apply to every coach.
