If your child is interested in science, and wants to find out more about the world we live in, then they are certainly not alone!
A number of workshops are now being set up in the region, to help children indulge their fascination in this broad-ranging subject, which covers everything from recycling through to nuclear physics!
One club that has been running for a number of years now, but which is moving to new premises in La Rippe is the Science workshop at Anhugar school for gifted children. Open to children aged between 5 and 15 years old, these workshops run throughout the Vaud school term on Wednesdays between 2 and 5 pm. With help from experts in subjects such as DIY, gardening, biology, chemistry, geology and physics, the workshops cover a wide range of extra-curricular topics with strong ties to science. Both theory and practice are covered in the sessions, which are run in French and in English, and also include trips to local museums and other places of scientific interest. Click here for more information on this club, and click here to see what has been covered in previous workshops at the school.
A new international school will open its doors next September in Etoy, a small village in Vaud, located conveniently between Geneva and Lausanne. Enrolments have now started for the first phase of the GEMS World Academy - Etoy, which will accommodate up to 1,000 students in a new, purpose-built building, already nearing completion.
Managed by GEMS Education, the largest K-12 private school operator in the world, the new school will teach students primarily in English. Currently applying to be a "Candidate school”, GWA Etoy aims to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB), Primary Years (PYP) and Middle Years (MYP) programs to children aged from 3 (pre-K) through to 14 (Grade 8), and will expand in the future to include children up to the age of 18 (Grade 12).
Rob Curtis, European Marketing Manager at GEMS Education, told knowitall.ch,
Is your child thinking about a career in one of the creative industries? Do you want to find out more about the career options available to them, and learn more about how they can develop skills that will enable them to stand out from the crowd?
If that’s the case, and your child is now at the stage where they are starting to think about career choices beyond school, then you have the opportunity to find out more about the creative industries at a special FREE event being held in Geneva on the weekend of 10th and 11th November.
Organized by local arts school, ALLMINDS, the 2-day Careers in Creative Industries Event will enable young people aged between 15 and 18, and their parents, to meet professionals working in these industries and participate in a series of workshops led by leading universities offering courses in these industries. NABA Milan, Webster University, and the Paris College of Art will be supporting the event.
A special event will be held this Thursday, 1 November 2012, to help parents in the region consider the various options available to them for senior school education.
Hosted by Geneva English School at their premises in Genthod, Geneva, the new “11+ Education Schools’ Exhibition” will feature representatives from local English-speaking international schools, as well as French-speaking schools offering bilingual or English programs. The event will be open to all parents in the region, regardless of whether they have children at Geneva English school or not.
Headmaster Stephen Baird told knowitall.ch, “We are hoping this event will become an annual occasion for all parents in the area who are considering an international education for their children with a strong English bias. By talking to representatives from local schools in the region, they should be able to compare the various options on offer and make a shortlist of preferred schools based on the information provided at the event.”

For over a decade the popular guidebook, Know-it-all passport®, has had a welcome home within the international and local residents of Geneva, Vaud, and neighboring France, and has grown to an astounding 750+ pages for its 8th edition, released August 2012.
The editor behind this series of guidebooks, Lisa Cirieco-Ohlman, had been thinking about publishing other books under the same brand for some time but was waiting for just the right opportunity. This came about in 2011 when Denise Nickerson approached Lisa suggesting a separate book as a guide to schools, exclusively those that present courses in the English language. Both Lisa and Denise have given talks to curious parents in the area and the recurring question and answer sessions often turned to schooling. They both felt this was the right time and place to create Education Guide Switzerland.
