Conveniently located between Montreux and Geneva, the Chantemerle International School in Blonay has just opened a new bilingual programme for children aged between 4 and 6 years. Under the new programme, English-speaking children or children with international backgrounds are now able to follow the British National Curriculum, with French as a primary foreign language.
The new classes are open to day pupils from Monday to Friday, 09h00 to 15h00, but for parents who require flexible schedules, Chantemerle proposes a Breakfast Club (including a healthy breakfast served from 07h15) and an Afterschool Club (up to 17h30) at no extra charge.
While English language and literacy, maths and other primary subjects are taught by an experienced British primary school teacher, pupils in this programme can now also benefit from Chantemerle's strong French tradition. Children enrolled on the programme are introduced to the French language through secondary activities such as arts & crafts, games, songs and theatre given by a native French primary school teacher. Sports and outdoor activities are also given in the French language.
While this new programme has its own premises in a unique setting, all children can benefit from Chantemerle’s extensive on-site facilities and activities. The premises are situated on 7 acres of landscaped garden, with a private forest and river. The school is exceptionally well located near Montreux and Geneva, overlooking lake Léman and the Swiss alps. Blonay, a charming and picturesque village is renowned for its 13th century castle and its antique steam train that passes at the foot of the property.
Welcoming approximately 60 boarding and day school pupils from the ages of 4 through to 16, Chantemerle International School now offers three academic programmes:
1. FRENCH NATIONAL CURRICULUM: This rigorous academic programme covers 10 levels (5 to 16 years of age). Students who complete the academic programme at Chantemerle can continue their education in the French, Swiss (private and public) or any international programmes.
2. FRENCH IMMERSION: for non French-speaking students who wish to learn French and follow the French National Curriculum.
3. BILINGUAL PROGRAMME (Reception Year and Year 1): This programme is designed for children ages 4 to 6 who will continue their studies within the UK curriculum or other internationally recognized school programmes. French is taught as a primary foreign language, and secondary topics such as music, arts and crafts, and sports are given in French.
