Find out more at their Open Day on 10 March, 2012

Following the opening of its new primary school last September, Lake Leman International School (LLIS) will now open its doors to secondary students.

From September 2012, students from the age of 3 to 13 years old will now be able to enrol at the school, which is an accredited Cambridge University International School offering students internationally renowned qualifications that are recognized worldwide.

The senior school will prepare students for the IGCSE and International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, whilst the primary school will be one of just two schools in the canton of Vaud following the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

LLIS Director, Anna Kaeser, told knowitall.ch, “The IPC is a program for the 21st Century and focuses on a combination of academic, personal and international learning.  By offering this alongside our IGCSE and IB preparation programs, we encourage children of all ages to enjoy their learning, develop enquiring minds, and have the personal qualities they need to be good citizens of the world.  Our pupils will also develop a sense of their own nationality and culture, as well as having a profound respect for the nationalities and cultures of others.”

LLIS has also been awarded membership of Cambridge Primary, an international education programme provided by the University of Cambridge International Examinations. Cambridge Primary gives guidance for curriculum development and allows teachers to assess children’s learning as they progress.

Small class sizes are a special feature of LLIS, with 16 children per class ensuring a high level of student-teacher interaction. Asked how many classes they intend to open in their senior section in September, Anna told us, “ We plan initially to open classes in the first two years of secondary education – as these classes move up the school we will continue to open more classes to fill the gap vacated by them.  We already have ** students enrolled for September 2012, and have more than enough space to follow demand.

English is the general language of instruction at LLIS, but the school has a special structure of teaching languages, enabling French to be taught to mother-tongue level. The school’s language programmes are designed to support students with different levels of English and French, so that all students can receive instruction at their own level.  In addition, German will be offered from 2012.

LLIS offers a broad selection of extra-curricular activities and sports to complement the academic programme.  Individual teaching and study buddy groups are also provided.

The school runs a full day programme from 08h00 – 17h00 five days a week including lunch service.
