bathome valerie

Local school teacher and mother of two girls, Valérie Besanceney, has just written her first fictional book for children. Beautifully illustrated by Agnes Loonstra, and published by Summertime Publishing, the book went on sale yesterday for just Fr. 12.- / € 9.99.

Called B at Home: Emma Moves Again, the new 202-page paperback provides a meaningful insight into the experiences of a ten-year-old girl, Emma, and her teddy bear, B, as they embark on another house move.  During the different stages of another relocation, Emma’s search for home takes root. As the chapters alternate between Emma’s and her bear’s point of view, Emma is emotionally torn, whereas B serves as the wiser and more experienced voice of reason.

Do you need a photographic challenge?

Would you like to see your photograph published in the 2nd edition of Education Guide Switzerland due out end-of-May this year?

We would like one winning photo per canton. Each photo will be used as a full-page canton chapter separator. See below for rules and prizes. We also have a few extra categories like “Academic Extras”, “Just Across the Border”, and “Other” which you can explore in the first edition of the book. We would consider entries for those chapters as well.

If you are are a parent and were asked what you would like for your child, most of us would place happiness at the top of the list. However, try as you might, happiness is not everlasting – life throws challenges at you that cannot necessarily be planned for or controlled. However, you can control your emotional strategies and skills to navigate challenges more successfully, and hence build your capacity to bounce back and maximize your potential for experiencing happiness.

Positive Psychology is the ground-breaking study of what makes us feel good, function well and flourish. Its research findings offer parents a new outlook on how to nurture children’s potential, find optimism and meaning in life transitions, overcome educational challenges and increase overall family wellbeing.

Lisa Cirieco-Ohlman has teamed up with Denise Nickerson for a new project: Education Guide Switzerland. Lisa has been publishing Know-it-all passport® since 1999 and has built up a solid reputation in the area. The 8th edition is at press and will be available end-of-August 2012. Denise has been involved with education since 1997 and specializes in working with multicultural, international, and expatriated individuals and families, and international schools and universities.

This new catalog will be listing over 250 universities, graduate institutes, international schools and Montessori schools — all educational institutions that offer academic programs in English within Switzerland — listed free-of-charge. Each school will have a dedicated page for their description which will also contain quotes when available from parents, students, alumni, faculty, or directors. The tuition costs, contact details, location, fun facts or famous alumni, degrees and certificates will also be divulged in one handy book. This 272-page catalog will certainly meet the demands much needed in a country offering so many ways to learn.

Providing a catalog of a country boasting a variety of English-language educational experiences for children and adults in Switzerland has been met with much applaud. "This will be a very useful guide" and "What a super and useful idea!" are just some of the comments that have been pouring in.

In response to the increasing demand for new moms wishing to recover their form after giving birth, GET FIT fitness coach, Leigh Anne Boonzaier has set up a new Stroller Club class, which will take place 3 times a week in the Geneva region.

The focus of the classes will be to establish cardiac fitness in a social environment, which offers post-natal support at the same time. The program will demonstrate the key steps in learning to run, and will show you how running and fitness can be a way of life, not just a seasonal past-time or trend. In a short time, moms should begin to see how they can “get their bodies back” and feel good.

The program provides a very gentle, step by step, introduction for moms into the fitness world again. All groups will have a fitness goal that is achievable, giving moms the confidence to continue their fitness journey. Each session will begin with a warm up, and end with a gentle cardio finish off with core training to strengthen post-pregnancy mothers’ core. Sessions will last approx 1 hour.
