From 9 to 11 October 2015, Geneva will host the first ever international Netball test series to be played in Switzerland, comprising three matches between the national teams of Switzerland and Canada.

Netball, inspired by basketball, is considered the world's premier team sport for girls and women and over 20 million play the sport worldwide. An Olympic recognized sport and one of the major sports played in the Commonwealth Games, Netball was first introduced to Switzerland in 2007 and is now well established in numerous clubs and schools, where it is played by both Swiss nationals and internationals.

After only three years since its international debut, Switzerland is already ranked 28th in the world and took the silver medal in the European Championship development division in May this year, whilst the Swiss Under 17 team was victorious in March, taking the gold. Canada’s team is currently ranked 21st in the world so the test series should provide exciting match play, with Switzerland relishing the challenge of facing new competition and Canada keen to maintain their position.

Swiss Netball President Cathryn Rich says, “Hosting an international test series for Netball in Switzerland has been a long held ambition of our association. Our aim is to encourage more girls and women to play this wonderful sport which is all about having fun, getting fit and of course participating in a bit of healthy competition on the court! This will be a great opportunity for the local community to see the sport being played at the top level and to get involved.”

Admission tickets can be obtained online for free. The event is being organized by the national governing body, Swiss Netball, and matches will take place on:

To add a bit more fun to the occasion, the organizers are planning two hours of entertainment on Saturday, 10 October, between the Junior matches in the morning, and the International match in the afternoon.  Netball nails, face painting, carnival games and a cheerleading exhibition are just a few of the activities that have been arranged to keep the kids happy!

So, why not come out to support the Swiss team, watch some great netball, and have lots of fun!
