A giant, 200m long water slide will be set up in the heart of Geneva on Saturday 13 June 2015!
Organized by the local newspaper, Les Nouvelles, Gliss’en Ville is the first event of its kind in Switzerland, and is inspired by similar “Slip and Slide” events that have enjoyed phenomenal success recently in England and the United States.
Wishing to create a unique and memorable event accessible to everyone living in and around Geneva, Les Nouvelles will set up their giant waterslide for the public on the rue Voltaire between 13h and 18h on Saturday 13 June 2015. Centrally located with a gentle, natural slope, rue Voltaire is the perfect location for Geneva’s first giant waterslide.
Adults and children aged at least 7 years old and measuring 1m30 or above are invited to take the plunge either in swim suits, dressed in disguise, or fully clad – whatever takes their fancy! Clothing with zips or other accessories likely to damage the slide are forbidden. Brightly coloured buoys, air mattresses and body boards will be available for the more adventurous participants! Festive music combined with various animations will contribute to what can only be described as a great summer holiday atmosphere!

Safety first
Safety is clearly a top priority throughout the event. Having smoothed the ground with sand in order to eliminate any rough patches, a foam mattress will be installed under the structure of the slide for cushioning. The level of water on the slide will be just enough to ensure a nice smooth slide and the descent will end in a shallow basin, 5 m wide and 25 cm deep, to ensure a comfortable landing.
The departure and the arrival of the slide will be monitored by instructors trained for the occasion and who will ensure that people are not sliding too fast or too close to each other. A maximum of 3 people will be allowed to take off at the same time. A security perimeter will also be installed around the slide, and there will be first aid post manned by volunteers throughout the event.
Water management is also a key concern for the organizers. A water management system will ensure that water usage and recovery is optimized.
Prices
A Fr. 10.- ticket will give you access to the water slide during a specified hour, determined by the colour of a bracelet allocated to you. A family ticket priced at Fr. 20.- can also be purchased for 4 people including at least one adult. A forfait illimité, costing Fr. 40.- will give you unlimited access to the water slide throughout the 5 hours of the event.
A small number of tickets available for purchase before the event have now all been sold. However, it is possible to turn up and purchase tickets on the day, although you are advised to come early to avoid disappointment.
Please note that changing rooms and toilets will be available at the Voltaire college on presentation of your bracelet pass. Sirop will also be available for all those wearing bracelets.
