Gallery Isabelle van den Eynde - Where is Waldo
From January 31st to February 3rd, artgenève will welcome 90 contemporary and modern art galleries from 18 countries presenting more than 800 artists in Palexpo’s hall 2. A strong institutional program and original curated shows will enrich the prestigious selection of regional and international galleries including newcomers Hauser & Wirth, Capitain Petzel, Eva Presenhuber, Raffaella Cortese, kamel mennour, ShanghART and Marlborough, just to name a few.
After a first and successful collaboration in 2018, artgenève will once again enlarge its artistic offer to decorative arts and design by inviting PAD (Pavilion of Art and Design) to present about 30 galleries in a dedicated section in parallel of the Salon d’Art. In the same spirit, PAD Monaco will open end of April along artmonte-carlo 2019 at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco.
Highlights
The 2019 edition will celebrate the 5th anniversary of "The Estate Show", an annual exhibition presenting monumental works by historical artists, with Chris Burden’s 40 Foot Stepped Skyscraper.
The Kunsthaus Baselland, the Ringier Collection from Zurich with a focus on Valentin Carron, the personal collection of artist Olivier Mosset presented by the Musée de La Chaux-de-Fonds and the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art displaying a timeless exhibition will join the MAMCO and its "in course of acquisition" stand, the Centre d’Art Contemporain presenting the "Biennale de l’Image en Mouvement" and other independent regional and international art spaces to enrich artgenève’s institutional landscape. The Fondation Beyeler, the Whitechapel Gallery and the Serpentine Galleries from London will also honor the Salon d’Art with their presence.
A selection of works from Jean Pigozzi’s Contemporary African Art Collection forming an exhibition titled "Studio Africa", the presentation of a large hanging work by Kimsooja presented by the Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon at the entrance of the fair as well as the installation of a superb neon by Cerith Wyn Evans at the centre of the Salon will complete the panorama of non-commercial exhibitions. The exhibition Turbulent Horizon will offer a focus on Video Art, presenting a wide horizon line of screens visible from a helicopter.
artgenève/musique will be present at the fair with performances by Hannah Weinberger and Hsia-Fei Chang staging an impressive sculptural wall of speakers. A next performative and musical act is scheduled to take place during the Venice Biennale in a baroque Venetian theatre, with the participation of Anri Sala and Angela Bulloch amongst others.
artgenève/sculptures will also innovate creating for the first time a parcours in Geneva’s historic centre and bringing together about 10 sculptures.
The watchmaker F.P.Journe will award the Prix Solo artgenève - F.P.Journe to one of the 17 monographic exhibitions presented at the fair with a jury composed of key figures from the international art scene: Hans-Ulrich Obrist (Serpentine Galleries), Beatrix Ruff (Ringier Collection), Andrea Bellini (Centre d’art contemporain Genève) and Ines Goldbach (Kunsthaus Baselland).
Raffaella Cortese Nazgol Ansarinia - Attempts at building a wall
Art talks, a program of conferences offered this year with the support of Christie’s, will welcome other important personalities from the art world.
Finally, the exhibition "Get a Nerve (La Nostra)" will take place for the first time in parallel of artgenève at the Villa Sarasin, neighbor to Palexpo’s exhibition halls, offering (as its title in anagram indicates) a playful, turbulent and straightforward program of exhibitions.
