About “le Cercle du Thé”
Le Cercle du Thé is the new name that owner, Anne von Erlach, has decided to give to her popular tea shop in Nyon. First launched four years ago under the name La Boite à Thé, the shop is a haven of tranquillity in the bustling centre of Nyon, close to the Place Perdtemps car park.
Selling “all things tea-related”, the shop includes a beautiful display of multi-colored tea sets and tea pots, canisters, thermos flasks, spices, syrups, chocolates, and biscuits, as well as a vast array of honey and jams. To create the perfect environment for your tea drinking, the shop also sells a wide variety of candles and mini-statuettes, plus additional items such as jewelry, scarves, and wraps.
In the summer, guests have the option of taking their tea outside in a beautiful, small terrace, sheltered from the noise of the streets outside.
Why the new name?
Asked why she wanted to rebrand her tea shop, Anne told knowitall.ch, “I wanted to give the shop a bit of a boost, and create a new “spirit”, with additional services that I felt our customers would appreciate. In Asia a circle is a concept strongly associated with Zen. A circle symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and the void. Le Cercle du Thé is a natural outcome of this.”
Range of services
Undoubtedly one of the most popular new services that Anne has launched is the option for customers to buy her tea online (delivery in Switzerland only). With hundreds of teas and infusions to choose from, some of them blended by Anne herself, customers, can now go on the website and browse, at leisure, the vast range of flavours on offer. You can choose from: Thés noirs (black teas), Thés noirs aromatisés (scented black teas), Pu-Erh, Thés verts (green teas), Thés verts aromatisés (scented green teas), Thés blancs (white teas), Thés blancs aromatisés (scented white teas), Oolong, Oolong aromatisés (scented Oolong), Rooibos, Rooibos aromatisés (scented Rooibos), Infusions, Infusions fruitées (fruit infusions), Tisanes (herbal teas), and more.
The shop also offers monthly afternoon teas from September through April. Served by a butler in full gear, this special tea costs just Fr. 39.50 and includes home-made scones, with clotted cream and strawberry jam, a selection of fresh sandwiches, an assortment of sweet delicacies and, of course, tea. Sometimes the afternoon tea has an ethnic touch to it, for example Chinese or Indian. Advanced booking is essential for this.
If a full afternoon tea is too much for you, then why not pop into the shop on Monday afternoons where Welsh cakes are the speciality, or Saturday mornings when you can enjoy a continental breakfast with tresse (typical Swiss braided bread) and jam. Scones, cream and jam are also on the menu on Friday afternoon! Indeed, you can be sure to find a home-made cake on any day of the week when you stop by for tea!
What makes “le Cercle du Thé” special?
Despite Anne being of Belgian origin, her shop has a definite Asian touch to it thanks, amongst others, to her Japanese assistant, and aims at making feeling guests welcome and at ease. Anne, Tiziana, and Yoshiko enjoy discussing the various tea varieties with clients and allow them to taste and discover new teas.
Anne commented, “The human touch and personal contact with our guests is very important, just as much as the selection of quality teas (white, yellow, green, blue, red and black teas, but also infusions rooibos etc.) Our online business is an extension of this service, allowing both local and international customers living in Switzerland, who prefer real tea, to make repeat orders with ease once they have identified their favorite teas.”
