Each year, during the month of September, the city of Geneva takes part in the “Semaine du Goût”, a nationwide food festival that encourages sustainable development and promotes the Swiss culinary heritage.
Seeking to educate consumers about the different qualities of local, seasonal produce, la Semaine du Goût is a celebration of the diversity of tastes that can be achieved using different types of food produced in Switzerland. It promotes healthy eating through a balanced diet, and showcases some of the most innovative dishes that can be found in this country.
In Geneva, more than 50 cafés and restaurants will take part in the event, producing home-made menus comprising of local, seasonal products. Running from 17 to 27 September, la Semaine du Goût is an opportunity to remind the city’s residents about some of the culinary strengths of this region.
Throughout the course of the festival, each food establishment taking part in the event will aim to offer at least one “plat du jour” and two home-made meals of which all the ingredients will include fresh, seasonal and local produce. Chefs should be able to explain to clients the source of all ingredients, guaranteeing full traceability of their dishes.

In addition to the participation of local restaurants, a number of special events has also been planned throughout the 11 days of the festival. A special opening event, with free entry to the public, has been organized on the Bateau Genève, located on the Quai Gustave-Ador, for the 17th September, where Italian cuisine using local produce will be the order of the day!
You can see the official program of events and a list of participating restaurants by downloading this flyer from the Semaine du Goût website. Don’t forget that during the festival, many hotel restaurants will also be taking part, offering a special menu and in some cases special events devoted to the theme of the occasion. At the Hotel d’Angleterre the chef will propose a three course menu enabling guests to discover the four senses: salt, sweet, bitter and sour.
In addition to offering a special festival menu at its Seventy5 restaurant, the Crowne Plaza Geneva is organizing a series of events for the public, including daily food tastings at midday where a local supplier will introduce their produce. Throughout the week there will also be a series of competitions on their Facebook page where you can win gourmet products. On Thursday, 24 September, there will be music from No Palm Oil in the hotel bar, with 50% off a selection of drinks. And on Friday, 18 September, Lionel and Vincent from ONE FM will broadcast their live show at the Seventy5 restaurant between 9h and 13h.
