Did you know that strawberries have more vitamin C than oranges? They are also one of the only berries that grow their seeds on the outside of the fruit. Did you know the Guiness World Record for the heaviest strawberry was grown by Chahi Ariel (Israel) on recorded on 5 March 2021 and weighs 322g! It measured 18cm long, 4cm thick, and 34cm in circumference.

Nowadays you can find a great selection of strawberry plants to grow your own... but meanwhile make sure to enjoy picking your own at the list of local farms.

We received information that strawberries are available in farms offering a u-pick strawberry system. Local farms will be heaving with fresh produce soon. Opening dates for self-pick farms vary according to the availability of ripe fruits. Please check with individual sites before going. We will update this article as we get new information.

Make sure to bring your own containers to some of the places. Some carry other seasonal items such as rhubarb, raspberries, blackberries, aparagus, tomatoes, and lettuce.

Grow your own

Buy your own plants at Botanic, Jardiland, Schilliger, Jumbo, Migros Do-it, Coop Brico, and other garden centers in your area. The one in the photo below was bought at Botanic and has pink flowers. The fun way to grow is in a hanging basket so the strawberries "drip" over the side. They make mini shoots that can be reserted in the soil to make new plants.
