A new ob/gyn practice has opened in Nyon catering for the needs of the English-speaking community, in particular adolescents.

Based at the Cabinet Forum Medical Nyon on Chemin Falconnier, the new practice is headed up by Dr. Gabrielle Cissé, a British expat who was born and raised in this region, and who completed her medical training in North America and Ireland.

Dr. Cissé told knowitall.ch, “My parents settled in Geneva in the 1970s where I born. I graduated from the International School of Geneva (LGB) in 1996 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature with a minor in Developmental Psychology from Duke University in North Carolina in 2000. I then received a pre-medical studies certificate at Columbia University in New York, followed by my medical degree at UCD Medical School in Dublin in 2007. I returned to Switzerland that year to undergo specialist training and obtained my Swiss specialist qualification in Obstetrics and Gynecology (FMH).”

She continued, “In November 2015, I was given the opportunity to open a Gynecology and Obstetrics consultation in a group practice with Dr. Karen Hofmann, Dr. Tatiana Collipal and Dr. Armine Najand, which I gladly accepted. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable and stimulating experience that I look forward to continuing in the years to come.”

Dr. Cissé offers a wide range of services within her practice which include:

  • Gynecological and obstetrical care (with ultrasonography)
  • Organisation of surgical interventions
  • Support for adolescent gynecological issues
  • Support and referral for gynecological/obstetrical patients with emotional vulnerabilities

Asked what makes her practice special compared to other ob/gyn services offered in the region, Dr. Cissé told us, “I grew up in an international community and have seen the challenges faced by expats who have difficulty communicating their intimate details in French. When I came back to Switzerland in 2007, I made it a point to offer my services to this community in English. Being bilingual and familiar with the Swiss healthcare system has been helpful in enabling me to serve the needs of patients from both the expat and local communities.”

She added, “Offering a listening ear, clear protocol-based health plans, and accessible information to my patients is my goal. I also believe in accompanying my younger patients medically and emotionally as they embark on their journey as women, to help them to feel empowered about the decisions they make in terms of their gynecological health.”

Dr. Cissé is affiliated to Nyon hospital (GHOL) where she also works on-call as a specialist registrar in close collaboration with Dr Fabien Dreher, who practices obstetrics and gynecological and breast surgery, and Dr Malgorzata Kempf-Haber, who takes care of high-risk pregnancies and infertility issues. This means that she can easily refer her patients if they need surgery or have more specialized ob/gyn needs, whilst remaining actively involved in their treatment plan.

Dr. Cissé follows patients of all ages but also has a specific interest in adolescent gynecology, which she developed whilst training with Dr Saira-Christine Renteria, head of pediatric and adolescent gynecology at the CHUV hospital in Lausanne. The mother of one adolescent patient told us recently about her experience with Dr. Cissé.

“My daughter had been having some issues with her menstrual cycle and in July her paediatrician recommended that we contact Dr. Gabrielle Cissé due to her interest in adolescent gynecology. We were given an appointment immediately.  My daughter was a bit nervous when we got there, but as soon as Dr. Cissé opened the door and welcomed us in, I knew all would be well.  She is absolutely delightful and put her immediately at her ease.  Being English-speaking helped enormously and both my daughter and I found her very easy to talk to.  We have since been back to see her for a follow-up consultation and when I had a question she called me back personally as soon as she had a break in her schedule and was very helpful. Personally, I can’t recommend her enough and am delighted that we’ve found her, as I know my daughter will be happy to go see her about any issues or questions she may have in the future and is in good hands.”

Dr. Cissé’s cabinet is ideally located half way between the autoroute exit and the Nyon train station.
