A new service has recently opened in the Geneva region, offering a range of face-to-face counseling services for young people, children, adults, families, schools and community youth groups.
The practice, called Counselling and Youth Work, has been set up by Mariann Parker, an Australian with professional qualifications in Counselling, Youth Work, Mental Health First Aid, Alcohol and Other Drugs Work, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Recently arrived in the region from East Africa, Mariann told knowitall.ch, “My new practice has been set up in response to the urgent need identified by international schools, parents and community group organisers in the greater Geneva area. When I arrived in the area and started speaking to these organizations, many of those involved in caring and welfare roles commented on the absence of English-speaking specialists who are capable of coming into organisations upon request or, equally, receiving individual referrals, to provide targeted and value-adding support services when and where people truly need them.”
She added, “The resources and expertise that my practice offers are designed to fill that gap. It is created around a model that builds on the successes of several years delivering similar services in Tanzania and Australia - yet it is tailored to fit the unique demands and pressures of the international community here in Geneva.”
The core services offered by Counselling and Youth Work are:
- Case management
- Online counseling
- Debriefing for professionals
- Therapies, which include:
- Gestalt therapy
- Cognitive behavioural therapy
- Person centred therapy
- Family therapy
In addition, Mariann’s practice provides a range of different youth work services including:
- Tutoring and homework kelp
- Self-esteem building
- Dealing with addictions
- Special needs assistance
- Working with mental health concerns
- Developmental workshops - these can be offered one-to-one, for groups of school students or tailored to a particular focus group.

All the services provided by Counselling and Youth Work are professionally accredited through the Swiss and Australian Counselling Associations. The organization is also listed in the register of complimentary health service providers within Switzerland, which can mean considerable financial support to those with health insurance.
Asked what makes her organization different to other similar services in the region, Mariann told us, “My practice is special due to the versatile range of services we provide for people of all ages, backgrounds and needs within the English-speaking population. We are approachable, dedicated and affordable professionals who are flexible on travel arrangements and meeting schedules. Based on recognised practices within the counseling and youth work professions, we are committed to working alongside partner organisations and services to help achieve the best possible outcome for each person in need.”
She added, “We also offer a user-friendly online counseling service to clients that may be located in another country or timezone. Given that many of our services require regular treatment over a period of time, this ensures treatment schedules are not disrupted, even when the client is traveling abroad, either for work or on holiday. We really aim to be as flexible as possible, fitting in with our clients' schedules wherever we can.”
To help increase awareness about her new practice, Mariann is offering knowitall.ch clients a 10% discount on her services. To find out more about how Counselling and Youth Work can help you, please contact Mariann directly or visit her website at www.counsellingandyouthwork.com.
