Sue Lake, notebynote, has become an institution among the International community who love musical concerts, events, and singalongs. Her friendly, open nature encourages everyone 'to give it a try' and to challenge themselves to excel and grow at whatever level they are.
Christmas Songs and Carols Sing-a-long
Sue writes, "As far as I know it's the only Christmas event in the area which is a 'sing-a-long' rather than a concert, where the audience join the songs. I started the event because I met so many people who missed the opportunities to sing Christmas songs and carols with other people. So I created a community event for all ages to come together to sing just for fun.
"Please put our annual notebynote Christmas sing-a-long in your diaries. Our previous virtual Christmas sing-a-longs were an enormous success and being able to be in person this year will be extra special."

Saurday, 10 December 2022
14h
Chéserex, VD
It is a free entrance event, no tickets and no advance registration required just turn up on the day. We do ask for donations to cover the costs of the event (renting the salle communale etc.) so we're not looking to make a profit, just to break even.
The Covid years
Sue confides, "Of course things have been quite different for the last couple of years with covid, the performance industry has been hit very hard by covid as no in person rehearsals or events were possible for a very long time. I was hospitalised myself with covid for three weeks in early 2020 - so the first half of 2020 didn't exactly go as planned! Once I was out of hospital I moved online for lessons and choirs and, even though online singing is not a great subsitute for choirs and lessons, it was a really great way to keep everyone spirits up through such difficult times. Last year we started lessons and singing again in masks - which is also very challenging! but finally this year in September we were able to enjoy singing together again.
"This event is a bit of a milestone as it's our first full singing event since covid so I'm hoping it will be an opportunity for everyone (choir and audience) to have a wonderful time after such a difficult few years and to really give people the opportunity to enter into the spirit of Christmas this year with fun, togetherness and rejoicing. It's so important to me - the reason I do everything I do - to give people a feeling of community when they come together to sing as well as to feel the pure joyful spirit that comes from singing together. Over the last few months we have started to see new singers join our groups again after the covid pandemic but we are definitely looking for many more new members of our choirs."

About Sue
Sue Lake, notebynote, trained as a professional bassoon and recorder player; you may have seen her playing her recorder in charity concerts in and around Geneva. Sue has for many years now been teaching piano, recorder, bassoon, theory to children and adults of all ages as well as directing various choirs and singing groups.
Sue has over 20 years experience and, unlike many other teaching methods, she tailors her approach to each individual pupil's needs, style and character. Getting to know each child individually to offer them the most suitable mix of Classical, popular, improvisation, written music to best enable their musical growth and maturity. notebynote has recently begun children's singing groups, with a plan to gradually expand to all ages and levels for singing and instruments.
Sue also works with adults both through private individual lessons and the three notebynote adult choirs. These three groups, along with the annual singalong and in a day events, offer the joy of singing to adults of all levels of experience and musical knowledge. Sue is passionate about opening up the world of music to the whole community.
Sue has also been involved in many voluntary roles in the International community for many years. She has participated in many GAOS (Geneva Amateur Operatic Society) shows both on stage, as musical director, mentor for their 'Really Youthful Group' shows "Annie" and "Grease" and, in 2014, she was co-producer and musical director for a fantastic production of the musical "CATS".
Sue is a lifelong Girl Guide and is actively involved with the Geneva Girl Scout community. She has been running a troop for 11-17 year olds for 10 years and also served 5 years as the Chair of the Geneva Girl Scouts which involved overseeing and planning events, activities and the growth of over 250 girls in the programme. She strongly believes in the need for children and young adults to be given opportunities to learn and grow in maturity, leadership and all life skills. Sue has also been involved in Westlake community church for many years, playing, singing, leading and working with both adults, children and youth.
She would love to hear from you, whether you are interested in private lessons, singing in one of her groups, coming along to a notebynote singalong or scratch event or just discussing how you and your children can get involved in the world of music.
