First day of boarding free for knowitall.ch readers' pets!
We’ve just got a new puppy at our house and have entered a whole new doggy world that I never new existed. No longer do I spend hours talking about the children with my friends; instead, I am constantly calling them up for recommendations on veterinarians, dog trainers, toilet training, and kennels, indeed anything to do with dogs!
Needless-to-day, we bought our puppy just before Christmas, after we had already arranged to go away on a family holiday in England, and when we called up the local kennels, they were all full! It was very soon clear to us that there is a shortage of good quality kennels for both cats and dogs, and owners will travel for miles to make sure that their pets get the best possible care whilst they are away.
So we were very interested to receive a recommendation recently at Know-it-all passport for a kennel service in Cranves-Sales, just outside Geneva, which appears to meet all our requirements… and more!
Set up in 1998 by Alain Sarrouy, Animaux Passion Services (APS74) provides kennels for both dogs and cats as well rodents and birds. Ideally situated in a modern and comfortable location in the countryside with lots of green space for your animals, APS74 offers guaranteed outings for your pets every day they are staying at the kennels – something we discovered during our own research is not a standard option in all kennels. Daily petting is a standard service for all pets that have come to expect love and attention in the home, as well as top quality food. It is possible to book for a day, weekend or longer holiday period at the kennel - all the usual rules apply re: vaccinations etc.
Asked how he got into the kennel business, Alain told knowitall.ch, “Having worked in various commercial jobs at the beginning of my career, I soon realised that my passion for animals was too great to resist. So after working at the animal refuge, Arthaz, in 1993, I decided to set up the first home delivery service for dog food in the region. One thing led to another and, before I knew it, I was opening my own kennels and training center for dogs in 1998. With the expansion of his business, Alain now employs a boarding assistant, called Marjorie, who is a dog and horse breeder, and equally passionate about animals!
In addition to providing full board and lodgings for animals, Alain runs a training center for dogs, which includes puppy classes and group lessons for older dogs. He also offers private lessons at your home, as well as special lessons for children, to help them become more confident around dogs and learn the basics of caring for them.
Following a huge demand from local dog owners, Alain also provides a neighbourhood walking service, where your dog will be collected from home or a convenient meeting point and taken for a 30-minute walk on his own. For those keen to teach their dog some socialisation skills, Alain also offers longer 2-hour walks in the forest, where your dog has more freedom to run around and play with other dogs in the local woods.
With his experience gained running a dog food delivery service, Alain is able to offer clients the option of buying the best brands of top quality dog food. He also runs an animal taxi service, if you are unable to take your pet to the vet or the groomers yourself. This is a great service for elderly clients who can find highly active or large dogs particularly difficult to handle.
Although Alain’s kennels provide the highest quality care for your pets, some owners prefer their animals to be looked after in the comfort of their own home, especially if they are young puppies. In this case, Alain offers a home care service where he or Marjorie will look after your pets in their own home, pampering and training them as required!
The cost of all these services is noted on the APS74 website, which is provided in English as well as French and includes a few pictures so you can see for yourself the setup at the kennels. There are numerous recommendations about the kennels on the guest book of the website, but one client told us this in her email: “It is situated right across the French-Swiss border at the Jussy-Juvigny border (about 25 minutes from downtown Geneva). The owner is responsive and reliable. The place is clean, organized and secure. There are many shaded areas for the dogs which is especially helpful in the summer. Its proximity to Geneva, especially if you live on the left side of the lake, is very practical. The prices are similar to Geneva/ Vaud kennel prices at high season but are competitive the rest of the year.”
As a special New Year offer for our readers, Alain will provide the first day of boarding for your pet totally free! This is a great incentive to visit the kennels and try the services for yourself. Just mention this article when you make your booking. But don't delay, the offer closes at the end of April 2016.
