Never one to rest on its laurels, GEMS World Academy Switzerland has been busy putting together a programme of exciting initiatives, events and incentives in 2018 that should appeal to both parents and the general public living in the Etoy region.
Swimming pool and fitness center now open to the public!
One initiative, which is sure to be a huge hit with sports enthusiasts is the opening of the school’s enormous new Pool and Sports Center to the public on Sundays. Between 8h and 12h, adults can now pay a one-off fee of just Fr. 8.- to access the pool and Fr. 15.- for the fitness center or a 10-entry pass for each priced at Fr. 70.- and Fr. 130.- respectively. The student and child rate for 4 to 15 year olds is less at Fr. 5.- for the pool and Fr. 10.- for the fitness center.
Other facilities can also be booked 7 days in advance, with costs ranging from Fr. 30.- for outdoor tennis and basketball courts, up to Fr. 100.- for the gymnastics hall and Fr. 120.- for the outdoor football pitch. Flexible Option for Pre-K
If you have young children and are interested in a part-time (50%) Pre-K programme, then GEMS has just started offering a new option where Pre-K students can come in to the school for a morning class only. Early Bird Registration Discount
GEMS is also offering a special discount of 5% off the full year tuition fees for newly enrolled students for the academic year 2018-19. The registration fee must be paid and enrolment confirmed by Friday, 30 March, 2018 at the latest. Scholarships
GEMS World Academy Switzerland offers a generous scholarship programme designed to help children excel in any one of a number of disciplines, including arts, music, sports or an academic subject. The school’s merit-based scholarship programme provides a reduction in tuition fees from 10% upwards and is available for students ages 14-18 years (Grades 9 to 12). Click here for more information.
Exciting programme of seminars and talks
Like many schools in the region, GEMS strives to invite the very best speakers to host events on a diverse range of topical subjects of interest to local parents. Their next event, entitled Parenting Third Culture Kids: Opportunities and Challenges in our Global, Digital World will feature an engaging presentation by Christopher O’Shaughnessy, a self-proclaimed military brat born in England to American parents, who has lived and worked across the globe and to date has ventured to more than 90 countries.
Chris’ book, Arrivals, Departures and the Adventures In-Between, has received high praise from students, teachers, and other experts in the TCK and international community as a resource that is both enjoyable to read at a student level, and able to instill truths, insights and skills essential to navigating life successfully as a TCK.
You can find out about social and family issues, the characteristics of a Third Culture Kid (TCK), the challenges of parenting TCK’s, how to succeed in transition, and what TCK’s have to offer an increasingly globalised world, in Chris' talk, which will take place in the school’s restaurant on Wednesday, 28 February between 18h30 and 20h. Open House events
If you would like to find out more about GEMS World Academy Switzerland, the school holds a regular series of Open House events where you can visit the campus, meet the Head of School and staff, and take a tour of the premises including the sports center.
