Special meeting on the local public school system in the Canton of Vaud this Monday, 8 May!
Do you have children approaching school age and wonder how they might fare in the local public school system? Are you contemplating a school move for your kids from the private to public sector? Or do you already have children in the system and simply need help to understand how it works, and get the most out of it for your kids?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions then the chances are that you could benefit from the services of Ready Steady Lausanne. Set up in 2011, this educational consultancy provides a variety of support for parents, either through private one-on-one sessions, or more general public seminars.
Why the need for a new educational consultancy?
Asked what inspired her to set up the new consultancy in Lausanne, co-founder, Tracey Keenan, told knowitall.ch,
“I initially set up a settling-in service when I was based in Zürich in 2005, targeting both the private and the corporate client. I wanted to assist expat families with settling-in, once they had arrived and unpacked everything, as I felt there was a gap in the market. I held public seminars, private consultations and went into companies to deliver seminars and presentations.”
She continued, “As the years went by, I found more a need from my clients to understand the local school system. As my own expat children were going through the local school system, I focused more and more on providing that service and felt comfortable with being able to assist families. Since arriving in Lausanne in 2011, I have turned my focus entirely onto Education Consultancy, specialising in the local school system as there is less information available in English and families are anxious to know how their expat children (and parents) will fare in the system without the language, and equally how working parents are supported.”

Personal experience
So what makes Ready Steady Lausanne different to the numerous other education consultancies that exist in and around Vaud? Tracey told us, “I have the experience of my own two children going through the local school system in Canton Zürich and now Canton Vaud and the challenges that expat families face with the local system. I have teamed up with Nadia Leone, who is a primary school teacher. I also teach English in the local secondary school. Between our work experience and our children, we have first hand knowledge and experience of the local school system from the age of 4 to the age of 16.”
You can find out more about the services offered by Tracey and Nadia on their website, Ready Steady Lausanne. Between them, they speak fluent English, French, German and Italian, so if language is your barrier to understanding the local school system, then they should be able to help you there!
Date set for next public information session
The date for their next public information session is scheduled for Monday, 8 May, from 19h to 21h in Central Lausanne (Avenue Eglantine). The cost to attend this session will be Fr. 40.- per person (payable in advance). Key information that will be presented and discussed at this event will include:
- How expat children, non-French speaking parents and working parents are supported
- The structure of the system, the curriculum and typical timetables
- How children are evaluated and how they progress through the years
But if you can’t make this session, don’t despair. There will be more sessions scheduled before the end of the year – just keep checking their website for the new dates.
Alternatively, you can ask Tracey or Nadia for a private consultation any time during or the day or in the evening at your home or via Skype (ideal if you haven’t yet moved to the region). Or you can get some friends together and request a private group meeting at a time that suits you all.
Tracey or Nadia will also come into companies and present tailor-made programmes for individuals or groups of employees – these can be organized as stand-alone seminars or as part of a new employee’s Welcome Day.
