A new independent British international day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 5 to 18 will open in Crans-Montana next year.
Set to open in September 2015, Le Régent Crans Montana College will offer academic programs in English that follow the British national curriculum. Targeted at children aged 5 to 13, the Junior School will provide students with the foundation for success in their later school careers, whether they are taking 13+ Common Entrance examinations prior to moving onto schools in the UK, or staying on in the Senior School to take both GCSE and IGCSE examinations, as well as the IB Diploma in their final year at the school.
Central to the school’s teaching methods will be the development of key 21st century skills, including creative thinking, communication (including Mandarin), problem solving, collaboration, entrepreneurship, risk taking, leadership and digital literacy. ESL (English as a Second Language) courses will also be offered for non-native speakers.
The school will open in two stages. The Junior School will be the first to open its doors in September 2015 to children following the Year 1 to Year 9 UK syllabus (1st to 8th grade). Day students and boarders (for whom there are 56 beds in the Junior School) will work together in a convivial, family-like atmosphere encouraged and supported by highly qualified and experienced staff. A tight network of support (Form Tutors, the Headmaster and his wife) will be in place to ensure the harmonious progress of each and every pupil.
Once the Junior School has been established, the Senior School will then open its doors in September 2016, welcoming day students and up to 150 boarders, aged between 13 and 18.
At a recent meeting held in Geneva to launch the new school, Head Master Didier Boutroux outlined his vision for Le Régent Crans Montana. He told an audience of potential new parents, education specialists and other interested parties about his school’s commitment to producing courteous, compassionate, creative and courageous young citizens through its rigorous approach to teaching and learning. He said, "Le Régent is a British International School, ‘British’ in its syllabus and ‘International’ in the make-up of the teachers and students’ body. Pupils will be drawn from around the world while most teachers, except those teaching languages, will be from the United Kingdom (UK).”
Newly appointed Head of the Junior School, Scott Bryan, continued, “Crans-Montana has become a prime investment opportunity for families wanting a home or second home in the Alps. As a result, our new school has benefited and will continue to benefit from the considerable investment in the resort, which features a wide range of leisure activities including golf, mountain biking, swimming lakes and an equestrian centre – not to mention all the various snow-related activities. Indeed, it’s hard to think of a better location for a new school!”
With this in mind, it is no surprise that the school will have a strong focus on sports and the creative arts. Purpose-built classrooms, all equipped with the very latest technology, will ensure that Le Régent is able to offer students first class facilities providing the best possible conditions for learning and acquiring new skills.
Mary Sidebottom, Director of Admissions, has now started processing student registrations. Anyone interested in finding out more about Le Régent Crans Montana College should contact her to set up an appointment and/or visit the campus, which is conveniently located in a quiet area of the town, next to the sports center and within safe walking distance of the town center.
