Intensive weekend course on 9 – 10 September includes wine tasting and glass making!
A new language school has opened near Nyon in Vaud with a special emphasis on having fun!
Created to provide students with the confidence they require to engage in local life, Sapphire School offers both individual and small group classes as well as intensive weekend courses, which include an element of local culture too.
Having lived in Switerland most of her life, Laure-Anne Piaget founded her new language school at the beginning of this year, when she was touched by the “teaching bug” following work as a volunteer in Laos, teaching English.
She told knowitall.ch, “The experience opened up many new opportunities for me…I told myself that if I could teach English abroad then I would really enjoy teaching French to foreigners at home! The aim of my school is to help students get to know Switzerland better and one of the best ways of doing that is by engaging with local people and activities in French!”
She continued, “Once I know what the clients’ priorities are – which can include anything from food and sports through to hobbies or work - we can then create a schedule of classes that will enable them to learn relevant vocabulary quickly and to express themselves more easily in day-to-day life.”
All courses prepare students for the DELF exams, and a certificate is provided at the end of their course to confirm the level achieved.
Prices range from Fr. 45.- per person per hour for a group session (limited to 5 students) at Sapphire School’s premises in Eysins, through to Fr. 60.- for individual classes at company locations.
Intensive Weekend Course
One of the biggest attractions of Laure-Anne’s new school is her intensive weekend package. Limited to 8 people, this special 2-day course includes French tuition from 9h to 14h followed by a variety of activities organized around the participants’ interests, which end around 17h.
The first course for this semester runs from 9 – 10 September and includes wine tasting at the Domaine du Capitole in Signy, as well as a visit to a local glassmaker in Gingins, VerreStéph, where students will have the opportunity to make jewelry or an ashtray.
The cost for the weekend package is Fr. 400.- including meals and recreation activities, or Fr. 300.- without the activities.
Client recommendation
As with all new businesses that we feature on our website, a client recommendation is essential and this is what one client said to us about his experience of learning French at Sapphire School.
"I've been having lessons with Laure-Anne since February. I very much enjoyed the structured conversation lessons that she has provided for me. From my perspective, the conversation practice that I have had with Laure-Anne as my teacher has been a great boost for my learning. The guidance and corrections on pronunciation and grammar have been really helpful. The conversations are always fun and engaging as well... so it doesn't feel like hard work! "
Why the name Sapphire?
In Laos, Laure-Anne met people working in sapphire mines. The beauty of the stone and the warm welcome she received from the people left her with such happy memories that she decided to pay tribute to them with her new language school.
