A new language centre will open on Monday, 7 October 2013, offering state of the art communication facilities for those living in Vaud, between Nyon and Lausanne.
Situated on the recently opened GEMS World Academy campus in Etoy, the World Language Learning Centre will provide a stimulating and innovative range of after-school and evening classes in Mandarin, French (DELF and DALF) and English-language communication for both business use and pleasure.
The center will be open not only to students enrolled at the school, but also children (from age 7 years) in the wider community, and adults. The English-language courses will lead to internationally-recognised qualifications awarded by the world-renowned London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
WLLC Director, Dean Marriot told knowitall.ch, "The center will provide an exciting environment to experiment with languages in a creative, fun and practical way. All classes will use theater-based performance techniques in the classroom and make optimum use of our new radio and video studios. Courses will run for 2 hours per week, structured as two one-hour classes on different days for younger learners and as a two-hour session once a week for adults. Bespoke tailor-made courses are also available, as well as one-to-one language lessons. In time, our course offering will gradually be expanded to include a comprehensive range of modern foreign languages such as German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic and Russian."
GWA-Etoy is a registered private examination centre for LAMDA, and will be the only centre in Switzerland to focus purely on the English Communication Syllabus. As one of the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom, LAMDA began offering speech examinations to the public in the 1880s. Since then, these examinations have been refined and developed into a comprehensive system of performance evaluation by experts in education, acting and communication. In addition to being the UK’s largest statutory speech and drama awarding body, LAMDA examinations have a reputation for excellence across the globe and will qualify students for UCAS points for university entry.
The initial offering of English-language communication courses at the WLLC are suitable for both native English speakers and those learning the English language. The French courses are more appropriate for non-native speakers looking to learn the language. Qualified and experienced native-speaker teachers will run small teaching groups with up to 12 students, both after-school and in the evening, providing a maximum of 60 hours of language learning per year (based on 30 weeks of tuition). WLLC enrolment evenings will be held on Monday, 30 September and Thursday 3rd October at GEMS World Academy - Etoy from 17h30 – 20h00. If you are not able to make either of the enrolment dates, then it is possible to request further information via the center's website by clicking here.
As places are limited, you are advised to register well in advance to avoid disappointment. Students who are complete beginners will be invited to register in a suitable class and non-beginners will be invited for a short level test to ensure that they are correctly placed before they register.
