Following in the great tradition of British theater companies, the Geneva Amateur Operatic Society (GAOS) will this year present its own special take on a popular winter pantomime, called Once Upon a Time.

Written by Paul Barron and Sarah Dyson, and performed by a host of talented local performers, the show will open at the Théâtre de Marens in Nyon on Saturday 29 November, 2014.

Pantomime Directors, Karen Ball and Gen Steele, told knowitall.ch. ”Once Upon a Time is a traditional British pantomime containing all the usual ingredients ― except that Cinderella and Snow White are now all grown up and have children of their own!”

They went on to explain that with the imminent marriage of Cinderella’s daughter, Princess Lottie, to Snow White’s son Prince Marvellous, evil looks set to be banished from Pantoland forever. However, in true pantomime style, the baddies do everything to make sure that this doesn’t happen! The wicked queen, Evelyn, sets out to stop the wedding by transporting Lottie and her two assistants, Nick and Nack, away to the furthermost reaches of Pantoland.

Needless-to-say, Prince Marvellous, his friend, Jack, and the cook, Gertie, set off to save them. Along the way, they have adventures with various characters from well-known children's fairy stories, including the infamous Captain Hook, Little Red Riding Hood and Alice in Wonderland, not to mention the March Hare.

Pantomime fans of all ages will not be able to contain their laughter as they watch the drama unfold, and witness the familiar splash of physical comedy, jokes and cross-dressing, to find out whether the Prince and his companions succeed in rescuing Lottie, and enabling her wedding to take place. Of course, you can expect the usual high standard of singing provided at all GAOS performances, this time under the expert guidance of Musical Director, Sian Humphreys.
