Providing theatre productions to the Geneva community since 1933, the Geneva English Drama Society (GEDS) offers a diverse program of plays with a wide variety of styles and periods. A typical season includes 3-4 full stage productions and 20 fortnightly staged playreadings, plus workshops and social events. The playreadings normally attract 50-100 people, and provide on-stage roles for both experienced and aspiring actors.
To kick off the autumn season, GEDS is staging the popular black comedy by Joe Orton, called “LOOT” – a farce that satirizes the church, attitudes to death, the integrity of the police force and other social norms.
Described by the Sunday Telegraph as “the most genuinely quick-witted, pungent and sprightly entertainment by a new young British playwright for a decade”, LOOT won several awards in its original London run, and has been revived in many professional productions.
Taking place at the Théâtre Pitoëff in Geneva between 24 and 28 September, GEDS’ adaptation of this comic masterpiece features a local cast of popular amateur actors and actresses, including Cathy Boyle, James Bradley, Pablo González Silva, Ludovic Lafont, Dan Day-Robinson, and Nic Sommer. The play is being directed by Andrew Brookes.
Numbered tickets cost Fr. 30.- each, or Fr. 20.- if you are a student (subject to presentation of a student card). You can choose your own tickets by booking online at www.theatreinenglish.ch, or you can book at your local Swiss post office with a bulletin de versement payable to Theatre in English, 1214 Vernier CCP 12-20568-3. In the motif versement box, just enter the date and number of tickets required, and leave your daytime telephone number or email, and the organizers will get back to you! It is also possible to buy tickets at the door (cash only) on the night up to 60 minutes before the show. You are strongly advised to telephone or check the website before to make sure seats are available. First night patrons are invited to enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbles in the company of the cast and crew!
