The Château de Prangins - Musée national suisse, in partnership with the Cinémathèque suisse, is offering three evenings of open-air cinema in the magnificent cour d'honneur on Thursday August 22, Friday August 23 and Saturday August 24, 2024. As part of this 8th edition of Open Air and in conjunction with the temporary exhibition Anne Frank and Switzerland, two fiction films and an animated film will be screened on the themes of the Second World War, refugees and solidarity.

The Swiss National Museum and the Cinémathèque suisse have joined forces to offer two fiction films and one animation. Each film is presented by a specialist from the Cinémathèque suisse.

Thursday, 22 August 2024 - the spotlight will be on Leopold Lindtberg's The Last Chance, considered one of the most significant films in Swiss cinema. It tells the story of two prisoners of war, an Englishman and an American, who escape when the train taking them to Germany is bombed in Northern Italy. Taken in by a village priest, they become smugglers, leading a group of refugees as they attempt to walk over the mountains to Switzerland.

Friday, 23 August 2024 - Ari Folman's animated film Où est Anne Frank? will be aimed primarily at family audiences. The film features Kitty, Anne Frank's imaginary friend, who comes to life during a violent storm near Anne's home in Amsterdam. Accused of stealing Anne's precious diary, she is pursued by the police. Together with her new friend Peter, she travels the length and breadth of Amsterdam, helping illegal refugees. In a Europe now grappling with major new issues, Kitty finds a way to restore meaning, life and hope to Anne Frank's message.

Saturday, 24 August 2024 - one of Louis Malle's greatest hits, Au revoir les enfants, takes viewers back to the director's childhood. At the age of 12 and in occupied France, his first day at school seems ordinary until Father Jean comes to introduce three new pupils, including Jean Bonnet. A modest film about friendship and solidarity, which won seven awards at the César and Venice Mostra ceremonies. Cinematographer Renato Berta will be on hand to introduce the film.

Before each screening (starting at 20h45), the public can take a guided tour of the Anne Frank and Switzerland exhibition (included in the admission price).
