JOURNÉES EUROPÉENNES DU PATRIMOINE Collège Calvin, Geneva: JOURNÉES EUROPÉENNES DU PATRIMOINE Sunday, 12 September at 10h30 The weekend of 11-12 September is the date for the Journées européennes du patrimoine/ European Heritage Days. I am honoured to be part of this event and will present, in English, the Collège Calvin and its extraordinary XVI th century medieval roof structure. Presentation by Debra Kinson, cultural guide and Marc Jeannet, civil engineer and carpenter. The Protestant religion was officially adopted by Geneva in 1536. Jean Calvin, theologian and lawyer, was charged with its administration. He founded the very first Academy, now the Collège Calvin, which later became the University of Geneva. The two original wings of the college Calvin were built between 1558 and 1561, using different architectural techniques. The central building housed the classrooms and later a library. In the second, the schoolmaster’s apartment was situated on the first floor. In this wing the remarkable preservation of the elevated roof structure, the work of master craftsmen, will be presented to the public in the 2021 edition of the European Heritage Days. Due to the weight restriction the visit is limited to x 20 participants for each visit.
