MUSEE ROMAIN DE LAUSANNE-VIDY
From Tuesday 26 May 2020
To Monday 01 June 2020

museeromaindelausannevidy

The Roman Museum of Lausanne-Vidy is very pleased to be able to again open its doors to you after several weeks of containment.

In order to welcome you in compliance with the health regulations related to the Covid-19, the capacity of the museum is currently limited to 20 people. In addition, the reception area (ticket office, shop, cloakroom) is limited to 4 people.

With a view to raising cultural awareness in times of crisis, the City of Lausanne offers you free admission to the four museums communal until 7 June 2020.

A stone's throw from the lake, in the green setting of a Mediterranean-style garden, the Roman museum houses the remains of a rich ancient residence and presents, in its permanent exhibition, the archaeological furniture discovered on the site of Lousonna.

The numerous archaeological finds at the Vidy site paint a vivid picture of a Gallo-Roman settlement on the shores of Lacus Lemannus. Like the Swiss of today, the Swiss of that time were going through a period of profound change. They were part of the Roman Empire 15 years BC and now belong to a new world, centred on the Mediterranean. And life quickly changed: the use of Latin and writing spread; new technologies (masonry, tiles, glass, blown glass...) and previously unknown imported goods (olive oil, seafood, dates, marble, lead...) changed daily life. The empire is a common market, served by a single currency and an efficient road and river network.
