The Geneva English Drama Society is very proud to present the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Disgraced, a brilliant modern American play exploring universal themes of identity which touch all of us in a global society which is seeing growing numbers of expatriates and migrant workers. This compelling drama will resonate particularly strongly with an international community where cultures intermingle oftentimes within the same family and where people are less and less likely to be tied to one ancestral « home.» « DISGRACED » by Ayad Akhtar "Fearless and thought-provoking, the New York Times called Disgraced "a continuously engaging, vitally engaged play" that "bristles with wit and intelligence."
Tuesday - Friday at 8pm Saturday at 7pm
Directed by Charles Slovenski

More pertinent than ever in our global society, Disgraced questions the very essence of identity in a heterogenous global culture and offers insight into complex and deeply fractious issues. Pakistani-American Amir is a successful corporate lawyer living on New York City's Upper East Side with his American wife, artist Emily. When Amir's African-American colleague and her Jewish husband come for a celebratory dinner, secrets are revealed, hidden resentments exposed, and their lives begin to unravel in a compelling drama that will make the audience question their own beliefs more than once. Opening night patrons are cordially invited to join the cast and crew for a glass of bubbly after the show courtesy of Blackden Financial." |
