BPW LAKE GENEVA: UNDERSTAND HOW YOU THINK USING THE POWER OF PERSONAL METAPHORS AND MENTAL MODELS
Tuesday 12 February 2019

Understand how you think using the power of personal metaphors and mental models! Tuesday 12th February 2019

For curious minds only… by Heather Cairns-Lee

Leaders, whether in the personal or professional domain, shape perceptions based on their own inner models and metaphors. This interactive presentation will share findings from Heather’s PhD research about how leaders make sense of their leadership through attention to their inner world of metaphor. Metaphors are fundamental to how we make sense of the world and they illuminate the mental models we think and live by yet they are largely overlooked.

Personal metaphors and mental models have implications for the development of self-understanding, authenticity and leadership. Understanding how to access and explore your inner models is critical. Metaphor also fosters intuition and creativity, which are skills that are in demand in the future (World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report 2018).

Heather will share an approach to questioning, called Clean Language that facilitates exploration of this inner world. It is also helpful for conversations in the outer world for example at home with families! The interactive evening is aimed at all women with curious minds who wish to understand more about how they think!

Heather is a leadership development educator, researcher and executive coach. Passionate about how people make sense of the world and ‘author’ their reality, Heather’s award-winning PhD illuminates the ways that people think and act through attention to their personal metaphors. Living in the lovely Rolle area with her family, Heather is Vice President of BPW Lake Geneva and volunteers as a netball umpire with AGNA to support the growth of girls through team sports.

Do join us for a terrific evening of networking and learning at the BPW-Lake Geneva monthly meeting.
