Oak Hill are delighted to announce the first seminar in the Speaker Series for 2018/19. Vera Popovich, from Ergo-Leman will be presenting a Handwriting seminar, from identification to provision. This seminar is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants and parents/carers assisting children who experience difficulties with handwriting and will take place on Thursday, 18th October, 6-7,30pm. Despite their best intentions some children find it very hard to master the act of handwriting. Poor handwriting can both reflect and compound other learning difficulties. It is often a barrier to fulfilling potential and can become a daily battleground between parents or teachers and the children they are struggling to help. During this workshop we will explore the many motor and cognitive components of handwriting and reasons why handwriting may be difficult. We will also discuss strategies to assist fluent handwriting as well as when and whether to switch to cursive or typing. Vera has been co-director of Ergo-Leman SARL, a bilingual occupational therapy service for children, since 2015. She is an occupational therapist with 30 years' experience, the last 11 of which have been in Switzerland, working with children. She has a Diploma in Occupational Therapy, a Certificate in Counselling, a Master's in Medical Science and a Certificate in Sensory Integration and Praxis. Helping children with handwriting difficulties forms a large part of her daily work. Please find attached the invitation for sharing within your community.
