OPENING OF PRO-NATURA CENTER CHAMP-PITTET
From Saturday 18 March 2017
To Sunday 19 March 2017

History and architecture
The Champ-Pittet estate comprises a magnificent XVIIIth century mansion, forty hectares of forest, marsh land and gardens.

Champ-Pittet Castle was built in 1791 by General François-Louis-Frédéric Haldimand. A descendent of an important family which had settled in Yverdon, Haldimand served in North America under the British Crown. He got this country house built for his retirement.

In 1979, Pro Natura Switzerland and its Vaud Canton branch purchased the Champ-Pittet estate to develop a Centre aimed at creating awareness amongst the public on the needs for nature conservation in general and particularly that of the “Grande Cariçaie”. Inaugurated in 1985, the Centre has welcomed to date some 400’000 visitors in its building and more than one and a half million out of doors on the estate.
