https://jazzonzeplus.ch/#section-6348 Branford Marsalis, Meshell Ndegeocello and Avishai Cohen headline the 2024 edition of the JazzOnze+ Festival Lausanne. And that's just the tip of the iceberg in an exceptional line-up that reflects the vitality of jazz today. The main new feature of this year's edition is the use of Lausanne's new jazz club, Les Jumeaux. In addition to the prodigious Branford Marsalis, who will be in Lausanne for two concerts in a row, and bass queen Meshell Ndegeocello, who will be paying tribute to the writer and activist James Baldwin, the Salle Paderewski will welcome the new trio of double bassist Avishai Cohen , accompanied by the impressive Roni Kaspi on drums; Christian McBride's trio, a tribute to Ray Brown; the new band of multi-instrumentalist Chief Adjuah (Christian Scott), and the trio of dazzling Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca. Aux Jumeaux, Lausanne's recently opened jazz club in the heart of the Flon district, we'll be welcoming the new generations of today's jazz scene, who previously played at Espa Drummer Roni Kaspi will perform with her wacky electro-pop project the day after her concert with bassist Avi shai Cohen. Spanish pianist Marco Mezquida will introduce us to his volcanically energetic “Tornado” trio. The Moses Yoofee trio is set to shake the architecture of Les Jumeaux with its exceptional drummer and its blend of jazz, hip-hop and electro. Finally, the ancestral grooves of the combo Jembaa Groove, whose musicians travel between Accra, Berlin and London, will close the concerts in this hall on the dance floor. At the BCV Concert Hall, the music will be more acoustic, with three groups led by talented women. Firstly, clarinettist Anat Cohen's new quartet, which blends classical inspirations with Brazilian music, then singer Cyrille Aimée's group, which is releasing a new album with a very pop feel, and finally the duo of singer Vanessa Moreno and pianist Salomão Soares, following in the libertarian and creative footsteps of Brazilian artist Tania Maria. Swiss artists will be performing on all festival stages, with high-quality projects. Among many others, let's mention guitarist Louis Matute's up-and-coming Large Ensemble, who will be inviting singer Gabi Hartmann ; the ELÆNA trio, one of the leading figures of the young Swiss jazz generation; the Mohs quintet, for an acoustic journey between modern jazz and electronic music; and the Konkolo Orchestra , whose own compositions celebrate the music of Fela Kuti, Ebo Tay lor and Tony Allen. The best students from Lausanne's music schools (HEMU and EJMA) will have the opportunity to present their new projects at the beginning of the evening in the EJMA Atrium, as well as in Salle Paderewski with a group featuring virtuoso Italian guitarist Eleonora Strin o and the HEMU Jazz Orchestra. The festival will also benefit from a comprehensive cultural outreach program featuring school concerts, a special project for the deaf and hearing-impaired, and numerous parallel events (Jazz History lecture, public interview, workshop, film, etc.).
