GENEVA ENGLISH DRAMA SOCIETY GHOSTS BY HENRIK IBSEN Directed By Gary Bird Ibsen's scandalous play "Ghosts" was entitled "Gengangere" in the original Danish for its double meaning not only of "ones who return" but also "events that repeat themselves." This second meaning is particularly relevant in a play where the protagonists struggle to break free of convention and where past events inevitably mark the future. A scathing commentary on 19th century societal values, the play caused a furor when it opened. The themes, however, are timeless, touching on morality, hypocrisy, reputation, sacrifice and sense of duty – even to one's own detriment. The play confronts the audience with the question of how much free will we really have and how much the past charts our future. Cast: Masha Neznansky, David McClenaghan, Gabriele Erba, Amanda Claire Monroe, John Ward. Opening Night patrons are invited to have a glass of bubbly with cast and crew after the show.
