https://fribourg.ch/fr/fribourg/evenements/benichon-et-tradition-a-ecuvillens/ A Fribourg tradition that is celebrated every year at the end of summer. Originally, Bénichon was a festival of blessings: thanks were given to God for all that nature had given us and that we had harvested during the year. Over the centuries, the religious ceremony disappeared and only the popular, gastronomic feast remained... The Bénichon menu is the star of the party! Today, it's the occasion for families to gather around a rich table. Traditional products such as cuchaule, jambon de la borne, leg of lamb or meringues take pride of place on this menu, which has the particularity of being very varied! Bénichon & Tradition was founded in 2006 by a group of people keen to revive this Fribourg festival. Since 1969, the Ecuvillens youth society has organized a folk procession every Bénichon Sunday, with several floats decorated to reflect the political, sporting and media adventures of the day. A large herd of cows and various musical and folkloric performances are featured. The Bénichon festival takes place on the second weekend in September in and around Fribourg.
