A new ob/gyn practice has opened in Nyon catering for the needs of the English-speaking community, in particular adolescents.
Based at the Cabinet Forum Medical Nyon on Chemin Falconnier, the new practice is headed up by Dr. Gabrielle Cissé, a British expat who was born and raised in this region, and who completed her medical training in North America and Ireland.
Dr. Cissé told knowitall.ch, “My parents settled in Geneva in the 1970s where I born. I graduated from the International School of Geneva (LGB) in 1996 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature with a minor in Developmental Psychology from Duke University in North Carolina in 2000. I then received a pre-medical studies certificate at Columbia University in New York, followed by my medical degree at UCD Medical School in Dublin in 2007. I returned to Switzerland that year to undergo specialist training and obtained my Swiss specialist qualification in Obstetrics and Gynecology (FMH).”
She continued, “In November 2015, I was given the opportunity to open a Gynecology and Obstetrics consultation in a group practice with Dr. Karen Hofmann, Dr. Tatiana Collipal and Dr. Armine Najand, which I gladly accepted. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable and stimulating experience that I look forward to continuing in the years to come.”

First day of boarding free for knowitall.ch readers' pets!
We’ve just got a new puppy at our house and have entered a whole new doggy world that I never new existed. No longer do I spend hours talking about the children with my friends; instead, I am constantly calling them up for recommendations on veterinarians, dog trainers, toilet training, and kennels, indeed anything to do with dogs!
Needless-to-day, we bought our puppy just before Christmas, after we had already arranged to go away on a family holiday in England, and when we called up the local kennels, they were all full! It was very soon clear to us that there is a shortage of good quality kennels for both cats and dogs, and owners will travel for miles to make sure that their pets get the best possible care whilst they are away.
So we were very interested to receive a recommendation recently at Know-it-all passport for a kennel service in Cranves-Sales, just outside Geneva, which appears to meet all our requirements… and more!
Set up in 1998 by Alain Sarrouy, Animaux Passion Services (APS74) provides kennels for both dogs and cats as well rodents and birds. Ideally situated in a modern and comfortable location in the countryside with lots of green space for your animals, APS74 offers guaranteed outings for your pets every day they are staying at the kennels – something we discovered during our own research is not a standard option in all kennels. Daily petting is a standard service for all pets that have come to expect love and attention in the home, as well as top quality food. It is possible to book for a day, weekend or longer holiday period at the kennel - all the usual rules apply re: vaccinations etc.
Asked how he got into the kennel business, Alain told knowitall.ch, “Having worked in various commercial jobs at the beginning of my career, I soon realised that my passion for animals was too great to resist. So after working at the animal refuge, Arthaz, in 1993, I decided to set up the first home delivery service for dog food in the region. One thing led to another and, before I knew it, I was opening my own kennels and training center for dogs in 1998. With the expansion of his business, Alain now employs a boarding assistant, called Marjorie, who is a dog and horse breeder, and equally passionate about animals!

As part of its ongoing commitment to helping the English-speaking community with First Aid training and health education, HealthFirst has set up a new series of Birth Preparation Courses for expectant parents.
The courses are led by highly experienced British-trained midwife, Polly Pupulin. Having worked as both a midwife and a nurse in communities throughout the world, Polly is delighted to share her skills and knowledge with the expectant parents of all nationalities in the Lake Geneva region. As a mother of four children herself, she understands the unique needs of international families and families-to-be.
With courses scheduled at different times of the day and week to suit the individual requirements of busy, working parents-to-be, the classes are held over 3 or 4 sessions on Saturday mornings, or on weekday evenings. The next course will start on 12th January 2016, and will run between 18h30 and 21h00 over 4 consecutive Tuesdays in Geneva.
