By Zac Allen, Zac Allen Interiors

We were very impressed by Zac Allen's article on this subject, especially now that essential item shops are closed. We are convinced that no-one apart from Zac has heard of all these amazing furniture and home decoration shops with delivery within Switzerland were available! We counted 28 sites and really are impressed with all the work he has put into this research. We asked Zac if we could republish this here and he has kindly given us permission:

Finding furniture and home decor in Switzerland is HARD, particularly online. My husband, cat, and I moved to Lausanne just about one year ago, each with what we could bring on the plane (Phineas, my cat, counted as a carry-on), so essentially we brought nothing. We were lucky to find a flat right before the pandemic hit, but that meant we had four rooms to design and fill with furniture. A real-life dream come true for me, but I don’t think my husband shared that same sentiment… Anyway, not really knowing where to even begin to find furniture and to follow COVID-19 guidelines, we decided to do all our home decor shopping completely online. It’s extremely intimidating to start when you don’t have the same access to the hoards of online retailers like in the US, but where there is a will, there’s a way!

I enjoy sourcing special items that feel personal, which can be tricky online and on a budget. I can spend hours drooling over the stunning catalog of home decor at 1st Dibs and Charish, but a single vase from those sites can equal the cost of a car - not very practical when trying to design an empty home from scratch. Every single blog and forum on the Suisse Interwebs that I could find pointed me in the direction of Ikea… great to quickly find affordable furniture, but not really my idea of elevated interior design. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a bargain shopper at heart and we made purchases at Ikea, but what if you want a more layered home? Where are the online furniture shops in Switzerland to find special pieces that can withstand a “trend” and bring personality into your interiors that won’t cost you 3 months’ salary?

I won’t claim to know where ALL of the places are (please comment in the comment section to add to the list), but I’ve spent months scouring the internet to find Swiss home decor retailers, which is no small feat (especially when trying to avoid the import taxes). It’s not a completely comprehensive list, but it certainly is a starting place. Please feel free to share this list!

If shopping for home decor & furniture just isn’t your thing and you still want an elevated home interior, check out my affordable Virtual Design Packages, or feel free to contact me.

SOFACOMPANY (photo above)
Sofacompany is my secret for all upholstered furniture, each model is fully customizable, high quality, and affordable. We love our furniture and the fabric has stood up against our cat. They do charge a shipping fee, but it’s reasonable AND they offer free import into Switzerland.

GALAXUS
Galaxus is like Switzerland’s Amazon (yes that generally includes quick free shipping). It can be hard to sort through all of their products, but worth it to find those special somethings. My go-to brands are House Doctor, Ferm Living, and Bloomingville.

CONNOX
Connox has a great range of products at all price points and all design forward. They do have a shipping fee, but it’s reasonable. I like filtering through their brands, they have a great organization to get a snapshot of what each brand is about.

GOODFORM
Goodform can sometimes be on the pricey side, but they do have great quality furniture and accessories + free shipping on orders over CHF 100. We purchased our tv stand from here and it came quickly and we are very happy with it!

LA REDOUTE
La Redoute is a MUST VISIT when looking for home decor and furniture in Switzerland. I purchased a ton of their furniture and textiles because they offer free, quick shipping AND returns. They have a wide variety of products and prices. Be sure to look up a discount code as they typically stack on top of existing sale prices!

CHIC CHAM
We should all be flocking to Chic Cham as they are a small business keeping up with the big box stores (they ship everywhere in Switzerland)! They have a stellar curated selection of designer furniture and home decor. Shipping pricing varies but is never more than CHF 35.

LOBERON
If you aren’t a lover of Scandinavian or Danish design and crave a different design aesthetic, then Loberon is a great place to look! They have tout elegant design in a mix of classic, country, and Mediterranean. They charge a flat rate shipping of CHF 9.95.

MILOLA
Milola has a selection of contemporary, Scandinavian furniture and decor at all price-points. The furniture looks really well made and most of their models are customizable! They offer free shipping on their entire catalog!

BRUNO WICKART
If you are looking for a piece of furniture that can last you a lifetime, Bruno Wickart is your place! They have a great catalog of high-end furniture and offer discounts on a lot of their products. They over free shipping on orders over CHF 100.

H&M HOME
That’s right, H&M has a home section online that ships FREE and is designer-friendly! If you don’t want to break the bank, but want well-designed products, H&M Home is a great hack.

WESTWING NOW
Westwing Now has a superb selection of furniture and accessories for all budgets. They even have a sale section by style, which has some great deals. Their shipping timelines can be lengthy but they offer free shipping over CHF 49 and free returns!

MAISONS DU MONDE
Maisons du Monde offers a huge variety of styles for all budgets. If you have a particular style preference, this is a great place to start as they seemingly have the most diverse selection of different design styles. The quality of their products varies, but I have been extremely happy with some of the mirrors and furniture pieces I have bought from them. They do charge a delivery fee, but it’s reasonable.

MADE
Made to order designer furniture at a great price? Yes! Made’s business model allows them to provide quality furniture and some home decor. To get you a great price there is a slight downside and that’s the shipping time, but I think it’s worth the wait! They also charge shipping on a sliding scale, but it will never be more than CHF 89.

BATIPLUS
I really enjoyed looking through Batiplus’ online catalog of contemporary home decor & furniture. Any interior design lover will enjoy this online retailer! They can be a bit pricey, but they are selling high-quality products! They offer free delivery on orders over CHF 100.

ETSY
Etsy is a great source to find vintage one-of-a-kind items to really give your home some character. If you filter the shop section to Switzerland you can shop local and avoid import taxes! I will probably do a dedicated Swiss Etsy sellers blog, so stay tuned for that!

ZARA HOME
Zara Home has nailed it when it comes to design at an affordable price. I enjoy incorporating high/low into my designs and Zara is a great source to have here in Switzerland. Free shipping on orders over CHF 200.

BOLIA
For high-end, handmade, designer furniture, Bolia is your furniture destination. Their designs are clean, modern, and will elevate any space! They offer free shipping and 30-day returns.

PFISTER
Pfister is a bit pricey, but everything is well made and they have a huge selection. The design sense is generally Scandinavian, but they have a large selection of other styles to suit anyone’s needs. I was really impressed with their rug department! They do not offer free shipping.

GLOBUS
Globus can be a little pricey, but their products are of high quality. They don’t have a huge furniture selection, but they have a ton of candles and accessories. I really love their line of towels and linens too! Free shipping on orders of CHF 150.

BOCONCEPT
Contemporary Danish furniture design at its finest. BoConcept offers high-end, designer furniture. If you can afford it, this is a great place to look for customizable furniture to last a lifetime. I am a little uneasy about their shipping policies; however, it seems like nothing is binding until you agree with them about the shipping terms. Hopefully, they will find a more streamlined solution to shipping soon - they have really superb products! They have shops just across the border in France (Annemasse and near Annecy).

MOORIS
This is one of my favorite sites to visit. They have a great curated catalog of furniture and home decor. They are expensive but they do offer free shipping!

MADE IN DESIGN
I love this site! They have a wonderful selection of high-end home decor and furniture for all different budgets. I highly recommend checking this site out if you love interior design. They charge CHF 9.90 for smaller items and CHF 49.90 for larger items.

LIVIQUE
Livique offers furniture and home decor for all budgets. I am not sure I consider them “high end”, but after browsing their catalog I can see that there are certainly some nice, quality furnishings at decent price points. They also have free shipping for orders over CHF 50.

LAMPENWELT
For all things lighting, Lampenwelt is the spot to go. It’s like Amazon, but for lights. They offer free shipping on orders over CHF 200. For my favorite picks, check out my Lighting Blog!

HABITAT
Habitat has a large selection of modern/contemporary furniture and home decor to choose from. Their products are of good quality and are in the mid-high price range. They charge anywhere from CHF 4.95 - CHF 280 depending on your order total.

HOME24
Quick, free shipping (on most items), free returns, and a HUGE catalog of furniture for all price points make Home24 a staple for online furniture in Switzerland. Some of their quality is questionable, so really read the description and determine what the product is made of to make sure you are getting quality furniture.

BELIANI
I wouldn’t say that Beliani has “designer furniture”, but they do have a great selection if your shopping on a budget. I love a high-low moment! Pairing some nice luxury throw pillows & a beautiful blanket with a less expensive piece of furniture is a great way to make the lower-priced item feel expensive.

MICASA
Another place to shop on a budget. I am not a huge fan of their catalog, but they do have some great finds. They charge for shipping under CHF 3,000, but it’s a flat rate of CHF 97… so not too bad if you’re buying furniture!
